UK - London - River Police boat patrolling the Thames

River Police boat patrolling on the River Thames, London. The Marine Police Force, sometimes known as the Thames River Police and said to be England's first Police force, was formed by magistrate Patrick Colquhoun and a Master Mariner, John Harriott, in 1798 to tackle theft and looting from ships anchored in the Pool of London and the lower reaches of the river. Its base was (and remains) in Wapping High Street, and it is now known as the Metropolitan Police Marine Policing Unit.
