Using an umbrella against the summer shower, she walks towards the town centre beneath a large cross. Klausen (Italian: Chiusa) is a commune (municipality) in South Tyrol in northern Italy, located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northeast of the city of Bolzano. In the 2011 census, 91.3% of the population speak German, 7.9% Italian and 0.8% spoke the ancient Ladin langauge as their mother tongue. South Tyroleans are almost all Catholics and quite conservative - though it depends on the areas and they erect such shrines almost anywhere though especially in vineyards or meadows or in villages where an agricultural holy omen is welcomed for good harvests.
