Needless Alley In Birmingham
Street sign for Needless Alley in central Birmingham, United Kingdom. Needless Alley is a little passage north off New Street. From the late 18th century Birmingham’s planners set about removing passages, and alleys, seeing as them as useless for commerce, and unsavoury. The survival of the alleyway was certainly never assured. In 1829, the Birmingham Journal said it was ‘needless by name and needless by nature’.
