A female prison chaplain at HMP Downview Women's Prison stands with her Perspex cross, dog collar, security cards and utility belt displayed.
Prison chaplains give inmates spiritual and psychological guidance; they act as the conscience of the prison, as well as exercise a ministry of reconciliation.
The chaplain is available and exists for all, staff and prisoners, often relaying important messages, between families, inmates and staff.
In the words of Albert Camus: 'Do not walk in front of me, I may not follow; do not walk behind me, I may not lead; just walk beside me and be my friend.'
