This lighthouse offers protection from the dangerous sandbanks of this area of Morecambe Bay. The lighthouse is owned by the Port of Lancaster Commissioners and was run for many years by Britain's only female lighthouse keeper, Peggy Braithwaite. In 2003 it was updated to an unmanned station.
