Jean Henri Dunant, also known as Henry Dunant, was a Swiss businessman and social activist. During a business trip in 1859, he was witness to the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino in modern-day Italy. The man whose vision led to the creation of the worldwide Red Cross and Red Crescent movement; he went from riches to rags but became joint recipient of the first Nobel peace prize.

The Paralympic symbol was created by the Scholz & Friends agency and approved in April 2003.

  • Tunisia , Medenine transit centre for refugees from Libya. 4 year old Noor, niece of fighter killed in Nalut. She was born prematurely, at 8 months. Her disabilities are believed to be due to the power failing in Nalut hospital and her incubator was off for 20 minutes. Since she has been in Tunisia has  been having physiotherapy every day and is starting to walk with a frame the Red Crescent has given her.

Ricardo Patiño said the device had been discovered a fortnight ago inside the office of the Ecuadorean ambassador, Ana Alban.
