  • A boy,a former factory worker, skipping in his free time art the GWF centre with friends. He was found and rescued by NGF inspectors in a carpet factory and is now a student and resident at the GWF rehabilitation school and home. Biraj is 11 years old. He has been living in the transit home for the last 2 weeks. He is from a rural village 600km away from Kathmandu where his family is still living. He came with the brother of his brother in law to the factory. He worked there for 2 weeks to send money to his parents before he was identified by a NRF inspector. He calls his parents regularly from the center but has trouble reaching them because of poor network reception in his home village.<br />

Biraj says he is feeling happy in the center. He is now in Class 1 and learning more and more every day. He did not know he was taken to a factory at the time, he felt very surprised when he arrived. He wanted to go back home but his relative would not listen to him.  In the morning, he had to take care of the babies of the carpet workers and had to weave the carpets himself in the afternoon.<br />

When he becomes older, Biraj wants to become a policeman to catch thieves.<br />

  • Colours are mixed to dye the wool in the factory lab. The factory make its own designs and can make carpets to order as well. They mix their own colours,dye the wool,wash it, weave it according to required designs and export them abroad.The licensee factories fall under three different categories, set by GWF;A for not very likely to hire children, B for more likely and therefor require more often inspections and C for likely to hire children and there for need constant supervision with regular visits any time of the day by GWF inspectors.   • Mirmala, 12 years old. Mirmala's fingers are now deformed because of working too long hours at the loom. She has been in the center for 19 days. She is enjoying living in the Home. She has no number to contact her parents. NRF are trying to identify them and contact them.<br />

Nirmala worked 5 months in a factory. A neighbour took her to the factory one day without telling her parents and telling her she would be going to Kathmandu to earn money. Nirmala was earning NRs 1200 per month but she never got paid in 5 months. Her parents are very poor and live 250 km away from Kathmandu. She wants to stay in the center.<br />
<br />
The Nepal Good Weave Foundation work to get all children out of the carpet industry in Nepal. The Good Weave  Foundation runs a rehabiltation centre for children they have rescued from the carpet factories. Most of the chilren are illiterate and GWF provide the children with education based on their abillities.
