  • Three-card Monte (also known as Find the Lady or the Three-card Trick) is a confidence game in which the victim, or mark, is tricked into betting a sum of money, on the assumption that they can find the ball underneath one of the cups. In its full form, Three-card Monte is an example of a classic "short con" in which a shill pretends to conspire with the mark to cheat the dealer, while in fact conspiring with the dealer to cheat the mark. This confidence trick was already in use by the turn of the 15th century.

  • Tourists finding their way around London's Soho and the West End seek help with a large city map. A middle-aged tourist couple have stopped during their exhausting tour of London on foot, pausing to consult the large-scale plan of the capital's streets where landmarks, shops and the river Thames in context are shown as places of interest. Standing near the image of the map, there is also a circle denoting the radius of a 5-minute walk from this location in Leicester Square. The round line appears to encircle their upper bodies in a humorous scene of tourism and discovery, of adventures in the metropolis and of the facilities that Westminster council provide for their visitors.

It is one of the permanent Olympic and Paralympic venues for the 2012 Games. The Velopark is at the northern end of Olympic Park. It has a velodrome and BMX racing track, which will be used for the Games, as well as a one-mile (1.6 km) road course and a mountain bike track.[2] The park replaces the Eastway Cycle Circuit demolished to make way for it. This land was transformed to become a 2.5 Sq Km sporting complex, once industrial businesses and now the venue of eight venues including the main arena, Aquatics Centre and Velodrome plus the athletes' Olympic Village.

  • Seen through a fisheye lens, we see an aerial view of the city of Florence (Firenze) as a lady tourist surveys the urban landscape using a tourist map. She has climbed the 84.7 meters (277.9 ft) high Gioto's Belltower (or campanile) of Duomo Cathedral. Due to the nature of the extreme-wide lens, the curvature of the horizon makes a global sort of perspective. Far below are the tiled rooftops of this Italian city's housing and properties and further into the distance are the green fields of Tuscany. On the marble ledge that is unguarded against accidental or intentional leaps, there is the graffiti of world tourism. The languages of world youth are written on this Renaissance building. The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore is the cathedral church (Duomo), begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to designs of Arnolfo di Cambio and completed structurally in 1436

  • Found in a garage where it had been stored virtually untouched for 50 years, this 1937 Bugatti Type 57s Atalante sports car is previewed for the first time before a Bonhams auction in Paris on February 7th 2009. Here, we see a detail of the rusty spoked wheels in a garage/studio before the auction and sale in Paris. In 2008 the Bugatti Type 57S with chassis number 57502 built in 1937 with the Atalante coachwork for Earl Howe was discovered in a private garage in Newcastle upon Tyne, having been stored untouched for 48 years and known about only by a select few people. It was auctioned in February 2009 at the Retromobile motor show in Paris, France, fetching €3.4 million (US$4.6 million), becoming one of the highest valued cars in automotive history, owing much to its extremely low mileage, original condition and ownership pedigree.

An older family member (probably the grandfather) points to his grandchildren various locations including Kowloon where they may live within the territorial limits of the ex-British colony. This scene is still 2 years before the British Handover to China and each place is written in English first then Chinese characters beneath, a sign that Britain still ruled administratively. The granddad’s memories of British rule before the Handover will remind those of the 99-year lease that China offered the British and which ended in July 1997.

  • A toilet sign sits near the standing Doric columns and tourists at Olympia's Palaestra or wrestling school. Here, training, instruction and bathing took place in the month before the Games. The 29th modern Olympic circus came home to Greece in 2004 and the birthplace of athletics, amid the woodland of ancient Olympia where for 1,100 continuous years, the ancients held their pagan festival of sport and debauchery. The modern games share many characteristics with its ancient counterpart. Corruption, politics and cheating interfered then as it does now and the 2004 Athens Olympiad echoed both what was great and horrid about the past.

  • Young men in drag perform to an audience as part of their Club 18-30 holiday experience to Ibiza, Spain. A tour rep encourages the men to push their inibitions to the limit but with a reputation for 'Sun, Sand and Sex' the 18-30 holiday formula has been labelled as parents' worth nightmare. From from the company's web site however the fantasy sounds less riotous: "There comes a time in life when you need to do it for yourself. A time to break free and break the mould. To explore, leave the map at home and find yourself. To find that one moment and make it last a lifetime. That time is now. Sunrise to sunset. Sunset to sunrise. This is the time of your life. Love every single second of it."

  • Vertical jets create a curtain of water as a child flexes his muscles, shivering from cold water cold and other young Londoner children spontaneously shed their clothes and get wet in a splash experience at the South Bank during the free Mayor's Thames Festival celebration along the capital's river. In the heat of summer, when the capital's temperatures have climbed to levels when urban children just want to play in any water they can find, this feature on the upper-level of the newly-renovated Festival Hall (seen on the left) satisfies their reckless and thrilling childhood, allowing them to await ever-changing jets of water pressure that alternates between off and on. The kids are drenched as they find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
