  • Deforestation of pine wood trees on a hillside at Gibbon, in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Fires on occasion rage through the forest leaving behind burnt and fallen trees which are left to decompose naturally, and to regrow over time. This is how the park is run, leaving nature to take it's natural cause, not intervening with nature.

  • A fence warns walkers to this part of the ancient woodland habitat in Sydenham Hill Woods, on 18th November 2020, in London, England. Once part of the Nunhead to Crystal Palace (High Level) railway which once passed through this flat part of Sydenham Hill Woods, its track bed can be followed to a disused and closed tunnel which is now a registered bat roost. Sydenham Hill Wood forms part of the largest remaining tract of the old Great North Wood, a vast area of worked coppices and wooded commons that once stretched across south London. The habitat is home to more than 200 species of trees and plants as well as rare fungi, insects, birds and woodland mammals.

  • The Fire Garden, a performance delivered by the French performance group Carabosse, commisioned by Totally Thames, was an illuminating, artistic tribute, delivered on a monumental scale, to Battersea Power Station before it is closed for redevelopment. This was fire alchemy at its very best: the smell of wax, the hiss of steam, and the heat and glow of the multiple fires acknowledging and celebrating this iconic site's gritty, smoke belching, industrial past. Globes of fire and thousands of points of flickering flame illuminate the Power Station as musicians play a mix of old style Parisian music with moody improvised sounds. Battersea Power Station is a decommissioned (1983) coal-fired power station located on the south bank of the River Thames, in Battersea, an inner-city district of South West London. It comprises two individual power stations, built in two stages in the form of a single building.

  • New fir tree growth on the site of one of Yellowstone National Park's great fires. The great fire of 1988 devastated huge swathes of forest. In the park, the natural order of life rules. If trees fall, they are left where they are, if a tress falls across a road, the dead tree is cut but only up to the edge of the road. Here we see the new growth beneath the burnt older woods. New replacing old, the regeneration of this wild land.

  • Missing posters for loved ones lost in the fire. Grenfell Tower burned out after a catastophic fire killing more than 58 people. The tower caught fire early Wednesday morning and final casualty figueres may end up to be many more with police not expecting to be able to find and recover all bodies and to find all missing people. No fire sprinkler in place and cheap cladding made with plastic is so far blamed for the ferocious fire.
