  • The TV tracked from the UK by Greenpeace has been identified amongst hundreds of newly arrived TVs from the UK. The TV is picked out and bought back by Greenpeace activists and brought back to London, UK.  Alaba International Market, one of the largest markets for electronic goods in West Africa.  New and old - and a lot of non-working electronic goods such as TVs and computers come in to the market via Lagos harbour from the US, Western Europe and China.This picture is part of an undercover investigation by Greenpeace and Sky News.  A TV-set originally delivered to a municipality-run collecting point in UK for discarded electronic products was tracked and monitored by Greenpeace using a combination of GPS, GSM, and an onboard radiofrequency transmitter placed inside the TV-set.  The TV arrived in Lagos in container no 4629416 and was found in Alaba International Market and bought back by Greenpeace activist. The TV was subsequently brought back to England and used as proof of illegal export of electronic waste. A number of individual are currently on trial in London in connection with illegal exports(Nov 2011)

Loyd, Jnr, owned by Transocean, was due to head to BPs Vorlich field, 150 miles 241km east of Aberdeen to drill for oil for BP. Change-over of Greenpeace climber.The occupation by Greenpeace activists subsequently delayed the departure for 5 days and 14 activists were arrested in the process. Greenpeace says that in an age of climate emergency BP should not be drilling for new oil but look for non-fossil fuel means of energy.

The Arctic 30 were arrested and the ship the Arctic Sunrise ceased by armed Ruassian special forces in international waters in the Arctic after Greenpeace peacefully tried to scale a Gazprom oil rig to prevent it from drilling for oil in the highly sensitive arctic sea.

All thirty are now facing charges of piracy, highly trumped up and distorted charges, and are kept on remand in Murmansk for 2 months pending investications in to their alleged crimes.

  • Greenpeace picket outside the Russian Embassy in London in defence of the 30 Greenpeace activists arreseted and detained in Russia. The Arctic 30 were arrested and the ship the Arctic Sunrise ceased by armed Ruassian special forces in international waters in the Arctic after Greenpeace peacefully tried to scale a Gazprom oil rig to prevent it from drilling for oil in the highly sensitive arctic sea. The peacefull activist were met with coastal guards and special forces armed knives and guns. The Russian authorities threatened to sink the Greenpeace inflateables and fired warning shots in the sea and over the unarmed activisits. All thirty are now facing charges of piracy, highly trumped up and distorted charges, and are kept on remand in Murmansk for 2 months pending investications in to their alleged crimes.

Greenpeace volunteers in kayaks, speed boats and climbers on the jetty prevent the 23,498-tonne cargo ship Elbe Highway from docking at Sheerness in Kent.  The cargo ship is bringing Volkswagen diesel cars into the UK and the Greenpeace action is to prevent this from happening and to make VW ditch diesel. Two climbers board the ship and hang a banner on the roll-on roll-off part of the ship preventing any cars from being off-loaded. The action is part of a long running Greenpeace campaign to curb diesel emmissions and air pollution broght on by diesel cars.

  • Container no 4629416 which has come from Tilbury Docks in the UK is being emptied for electronic goods, including the TV traced by Greenpeace. Alaba International Market is one of the largest markets for electronic goods in West Africa.  New and old - and a lot of non-working electronic goods such as TVs and computers come in to the market via Lagos harbour from the US, Western Europe and China. This picture is part of an undercover investigation by Greenpeace and Sky News.  A TV-set originally delivered to a municipality-run collecting point in UK for discarded electronic products was tracked and monitored by Greenpeace using a combination of GPS, GSM, and an onboard radiofrequency transmitter placed inside the TV-set.  The TV arrived in Lagos in container no 4629416 and was found in Alaba International Market and bought back by Greenpeace activist. The TV was subsequently brought back to England and used as proof of illegal export of electronic waste. A number of individual are currently on trial in London in connection with illegal exports(Nov 2011)
