  • "Then raindrops fell on my head." Looking over the shoulder as a mother pours bath water from a toy seive on to the head of her five month-old baby daughter. The infant looks unsure but otherwise spellbound as the droplets fall, watching them leaving the pot to feel them trickling down. We see the child's trust for her mother and imagine her fascination with tumbling liquid, the feel of it touching her skin. This water is shallow, a child can drown in an inch of water so the mum is supporting the baby's head around the neck in the correct manner. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.

  • The rocky coastline is at Dinas Head in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Seen from high up on the cliff top as a late sun plays across the grasses and sandstone headland. At 463 feet in height, the Dinas Head cliffs provide excellent views across Fishguard Bay to the south and Newport Bay to the north. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is the first National Trail in Wales. Opened in 1970, the path is almost entirely contained within the boundaries of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park that takes in 17 Sites of Scientific Interest (SSSI), two nature reserves, and Wales' only marine nature reserve. The cliff tops offer wonderful expanses of wildflowers in Spring (April and May are best). Wide variety of birds nest along the cliffs, and grey seals can often be seen in the water below.

  • We look through the windscreen of a Royal Air Force C-130-J Hercules to see a pilots-eye view of his fixed head-up-display (HUD), while in flight over Hampshire during the Farnborough Air Show. We see the aircraft flying data in green set against the magenta colour (color) of the clouds and sky beyond. The pilot will see the statistics that are important aspects of his aeroplane's altitude, compass heading, localiser, air speed, pitch, roll and yaw. Head-up displays are increasingly important to military and commercial aircraft (airplanes) when information can be displayed without obstructing the user's front view front. The second type of HUD is mounted within a protective helmet visor. The C-130 Hercules primarily performs the tactical portion of airlift operations. The aircraft is capable of operating from rough, dirt strips and is the prime transport for air dropping troops and equipment into hostile areas. The C-130-J is the newer generation digital version with fully integrated digital avionics; color multifunctional liquid crystal displays including the HUD; state-of-the-art navigation systems with dual inertial navigation system and global positioning system; fully integrated defensive systems; low-power color radar; digital moving map display; new turboprop engines with six-bladed, all-composite propellers; digital auto pilot; improved fuel, environmental and ice-protection systems; and an enhanced cargo-handling system.

  • A holy Sadhu man attracts a crowd on the Maidan in central Calcutta, India. Near some ballustrades built by the British during the last years of the Raj, the man is leaning forward on his knees and his head is buried in gravel. Practicing Tapas or Niyamas, is one form of Austerity that holy men like this perform to cleanse themselves of bad thoughts. It is a conservation of energy; an increase of power in the system by sense control; a process of positive-thought, self-imposed hardships and inner-strength - all to gain a higher being for oneself. They might stand in cold water in winter, stand on or bury their heads in earth. Niyamas also breeds non-violence, truthfullness, non-stealing, moderation, non-possessiveness, purity, contentment, discipline, study and surrender.

  • Artist Nic Fiddian-Green's giant 30ft bronze 'Marwari Horse at Water' sculpture which stands at London's Marble Arch. Seated beneath this huge piece of scaled equine head are young people, leaning and sitting on the horse's plinth. This is a popular stopping off place for those enjoying late summer temperatures. The head stands on the end of its nose, a balancing act effective as a standalone piece of art that represents the carrying of wounded masters to safety that had an extraordinary resonance for the artist. Commissioned to create the piece by JCB founder Sir Anthony and Lady Bamford in January 2006 – just after Fiddian-Green had been diagnosed as suffering from a rare form of leukaemia. The Marwari breed was famous in India for centuries as the mount of the Rajput cavalry.

The navy man is used to finding his way around a ship or low-ceiling submarine but obviously needs a helping hand while under the wing of this aircraft. The Royal Air Force officer wearing full dress uniform complete with gold braid holds the other’s head on which rests his white Navy hat, also with gold insignia that denotes his senior rank. The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine, canard-delta wing, multirole combat aircraft, designed and built by a consortium of three companies. Its maiden flight took place on 27 March 1994 watched by VIPS from UK industry and military.

  • A special effects model maker artist works on a clay head of actor Pierce Brosnan in his role as James Bond in the 1996 film GoldenEye, filmed at an old Rolls-Royce factory at the Leavesden Aerodrome in Hertfordshire. Using publicity and studio head shots of Brosnan, the woman refers to the glossy prints to sculpt the contours and shape for a scene requiring a miniature version of 007. GoldenEye (1995) is the seventeenth spy film in the James Bond series, and the first to star Pierce Brosnan as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. The film was directed by Martin Campbell and is the first film in the series not to take story elements from the works of novelist Ian Fleming.

Blue shutters similar to those on many small businesses are in the background and their horizontal stripes contrast with the youth's hair, which we see from the rear to ensure his anonymity. • Detail of the Queens Head pub, on 8th January 2019, in Ramsgate, Kent, England. The Port of Ramsgate has been identified as a Brexit Port by the government of Prime Minister Theresa May, currently negotiating the UKs exit from the EU. Britains Department of Transport has awarded to an unproven shipping company, Seaborne Freight, to provide run roll-on roll-off ferry services to the road haulage industry between Ostend and the Kent port - in the event of more likely No Deal Brexit. In the EU referendum of 2016, people in Kent voted strongly in favour of leaving the European Union with 59% voting to leave and 41% to remain.

  • The head of a freshly-caught yellow fin tuna fish lies inert on a filleting table at a refrigerated processing factory on Himmafushi island, Maldives. The 50kg carcass has been swimming across the Indian Ocean non-stop since birth and just line-caught by freelance boat crews who share profits for only high-quality fish that passes stringent health tests. The tuna has been in ice since being landed to keep a low-temperature body core so the workers cut out the prime flesh as quickly as possible before boxing the resulting chunks of steak for export by air to Europe and in particular for customers such as UK's Sainsbury's supermarket. The filleting is performed by Sri Lankan ex-fishermen and widowers, having lost their families during the Tsunami. Using sharp knives, they skillfully remove valuable meat and throw away the rest.
