  • A broken red lantern with the characters " wan shi ru yi", or "ten thousand things accroding to your will", sits on the rubble of a demolished house house that is slated for redevelopment in Shanghai China, on May 01, 2011. The government has installed a series of measures in hope of curbing housing prices in major cities, which has sky rocketed in recent years out of the reach of ordinary families. While the effectiveness of these measures remain to be seen, as one of the main cause is the high cost of land, which is owned by the government, the restrictions has caused a real estate boom in smaller cities that are quickly becoming a problem of its own.

  • Halloween pumpkin, London, United Kingdom. Halloween, also known as All Hallows Eve, or All Saints Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31st October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints hallows, martyrs, and all the faithful departed. Carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns is a popular Halloween tradition that originated hundreds of years ago in Ireland. Back then, however, jack-o-lanterns were made out of turnips or potatoes; it wasnt until Irish immigrants arrived in America and discovered the pumpkin that a new Halloween ritual was born.

A pigeon is caught flying at speed past the viewer and graffiti spoils this otherwise idyllic landscape in the renaissance city. Properties that line the piazza are already in deep shadow but there are still many visitors standing around on the stones to admire the Santa Croce church that is located to the left of this street.
