  • A woman rock climber hangs on to a small piece of rock and is suspended by ropes. Mid-way between two points of safe, rock handholds, the lady stretches across the limestone, safely tethered to her partner higher up the rock face. The rock forms one small part of The Great Orme (Welsh: Y Gogarth or Pen y Gogarth), a prominent limestone headland on the north coast of Wales situated in Llandudno. It is referred to as Cyngreawdr Fynydd in a poem by the 12th century poet Gwalchmai ap Meilyr. It is echoed by the Little Orme, a smaller but very similar limestone headland, which is on the other side of Llandudno Bay in the parish of Llanrhos. The geology of the Great Orme is limestone and the surface is particularly noted for the limestone pavements covering several headland areas. There are also rich seams of Dolomite-hosted copper ore.

  • Boy jumps off container in risk averse playground called The Land on Plas Madoc Estate, Ruabon, Wrexham, Wales. Using the height and thrill to enjoy a scary drop, the boys are encouraged to push their personal limits in a way that parents are nowadays scared to allow. But here in this council play park, children are encouraged to experiment with risk aversion, to enjoy a wilder form of play and interaction with others - the opposite of online relations and over safe childhoods. From the chapter entitled 'Playing with Fire' from the book 'Risk Wise: Nine Everyday Adventures' by Polly Morland (Allianz, The School of Life, Profile Books, 2015).

  • The names of Welshmen who served (but not necessarily killed) in the First World War are listed on a memorial in the village hall of Tregaron, Wales, UK. Typical Welsh names such as Evans and Davies are seen numbered from 1 to 56 and beyond. Their vertical listing remembers the service of the local men (and possibly women) whose youth passed in the years of this worldwide wartime. Two wreaths of poppies are attached to the top in this quiet corner of the village hall in mid-Wales.

  • Long boarder youth sleeps between downhill contests in Tregaron, Wales. During the lunchtime rest of races, on the top of a hillside of slate rock in this quiet mid-Wales hilltop. The young man with beard has pulled down the hood over his face to shield his eyes and so to aid his brief sleep. With fingers interlocked and on a softer patch at the side of the road/track, the man enjoys a moment of peace and tranquility.

  • Two long boarders descend a hill on private road in Tregaron, Wales. During the downhill longboard races held on private land on a Sunday afternoon in mid-Wales, men and women of all ages try to dominate their mates and fellow-competitors in a series of heats throughout the day. The private road is steep and the racers need to angle themselves in order to negotiate the bend. Crouching low with a balancing gloved hand that scrapes the ground and wearing helmets and a Go-Pro camera on the top, the men whiz down past spectators to the bottom.
