  • Schoolboys perform rock and roll song together as a band in a south London pub. With the lead singer standing confidently at the microphone and the others concentrating hard on their chords, they perform during a rehearsal for a local music showcase. The young lad is about thirteen (13) years of age and unusually, he plays his electric Fender Squier Stratocaster left-handed guitar with ease. Over his left shoulder we can see part of a drum kit and the amplifiers in the background too. The venue is a pub in south London where the children play will be playing for proud parents and friends and they practice over two weeks, the songs allocated to them by their guitar teacher.

  • A music shop has moved from Denmark Street in London's famous Tin Pan Alley, a result of lease issues and rent hikes. A sign stretches across the width of the shutters telling customers that business has moved away from this iconic street known in the music industry as the centre of music publishing and musical instruments, primarily guitars, percussion, keyboards and sheet music. Pop music stars and rock bands like Elton John and the Rolling Stones have had their careers launched from Denmark Street where those who controlled the music business had their offices. With the disappearance of these businesses, come cafes and a gentrification that will soon see Tin Pan Alley as quirky in name only.

  • Electric and acoustic guitars on display in Martin & Co, one of the last music shops to stay in Denmark Street in London's famous Tin Pan Alley, a result of lease issues and rent hikes. In the window we see beautifully-designed instruments with the electric versions in the front row and the acoustics at the back. The American Martin Guitar Company has been continuously producing acoustic instruments that are acknowledged to be the finest in the world since 1833. Tin Pan Alley has been at the heart of the music publishing and musical instruments, primarily guitars, percussion, keyboards and sheet music. • Schoolboys from the City of London School play string instruments during a public performance of classical music. The young orchestra is performing at St. James Garlickhythe, a city of London church redesigned by Sir Christopher Wren after its destruction in 1666. Showing great concentration and passion for their music, the violinists and cellists play with great skill for such young players. We see their copyrighted sheet music attached to the stands, guiding them through the classical pieces listened to by an unseen audience. There is a slight blurring to arms and hands as their bows pass over the bridges of their instruments. <br />

  • A detailed view of a musician's hand delicately plucking the strings of his double bass. Our attention is on the architecture and parts of the bass: Its f-hole, the fingerboard, strings and bridge. The double bass, also called the string bass, upright bass, bass violin or contrabass, is the largest and lowest-pitched bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra. The double bass is a standard member of the string section of the symphony orchestra and smaller string ensembles in Western classical music. In addition, it is used in other genres such as jazz, 1950s-style blues and rock and rockabilly, traditional country music, bluegrass, tango and many types of folk music. The double bass is typically constructed from several types of wood, including maple for the back, spruce for the top, and ebony for the fingerboard.

Music from the Han, Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasties is played.

Today There is still some great music to be found here but, like its famous sister Nashville, one has to navigate some typical US commercialism in the search as the town cashes in on its reputation. Most of the residents of this bar seem to be tourists but the music is outstanding and and the tips jar is simply a reflection of the harsh realties for many musicians in these crowded music towns.

  • Johnny Ville ( possible Elvis wannabe) showing his moves outside the world famous Tootsies bar on Broadway has come to Nashville to develop his musical career: a natural performer and self promoter "Elvis was my daddy” and "I've only been down to Nashville for a week and I've already got myself a record deal" he claims, Johnny doesn’t have a permanent address and seems to rove around trying to make a few bucks with his guitar. It seems the romantic spirit of Nashville is alive and well. Nashville is the capital of Tennessee and the self styled home of country music. Today There is still some great music to be found but one has to navigate some typical US commercialism in the search as the town cashes in on its reputation.
