• An artist is incongruously enclosed in roadworks barriers at the busy junction of Piccadilly Circus in London's West End. Painting with an easel and applying careful brush strokes amid the noise and chaos of this busy traffic junction in the capital. A young man walks past barely noticing the artist as he strides through the heart of London's west end. But on the youth's t-shirt is a modern interpretation (wearing glasses and apparently spitting liquid into a cup) of Hans Memling's "Portrait of a Man with a Coin of the Emperor Nero (Bernardo Bembo)" German-born artist Jan van Mimnelinghe (Hans Memling, c. 1435-94) was well known all over Europe. During his lifetime, he painted commissions not only for the Burgundian Dukes, but also for patrons in Germany, Austria, Venice, Florence and London.

 • Mural by the artist known as Stik, painted on a wall at Push Studios, Blackwater Street, East Dulwich. Stik people, although androgenous and constructed from simple shapes, are nevertheless capable of conveying complex body language and emotion. These themes of human emotion and expression are infused in Stik’s brightly coloured street art. Stik, the street artist, himself was homeless for a period and ideas surrounding human vulnerability are also detectable in his art. Stik has been creating Stik people around London for over ten years

Kneeling down on the pavement of this landmark in central London, we see the juxtaposition of classical art and the everyday version of street sketching. In the background we also see a busker dressed as iconic Star Wars character, Yoda. Ferdinand Victor Eugène Delacroix (1798 – 1863) was a French Romantic artist regarded from the outset of his career as the leader of the French Romantic school

 • A street artist works on his pavement piece in front of Goya portraits, sponsored by Credit Suisse and advertised on a construction hoarding outside the National Portrait Gallery. Creating his version of a Salvador Dali face on the ground, the artist chalks and smooths the features of the famous Spanish surrealist.
Salvador Dalí was a prominent Spanish surrealist painter born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. He was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes 1746 – 1828 was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker regarded both as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. In a scene of contemporary street art and that of high culture, we see a man trying to make a living outside versus a man who once did the same in another era.

 • Roa is a Belgian street artist renowned for his giant black and white animals which can be found on walls and shutters in varying states of decay. Here seen is a beaver character in a parking lot on Hackney Road as another artist paints around it. There are also a few Rats and Birds which reside on shop shutters along Brick Lane.

Street art in the East End of London is an ever changing visual enigma, as the artworks constantly change, as councils clean some walls or new works go up in place of others. While some consider this vandalism or graffiti, these artworks are very popular among local people and visitors alike, as a sense of poignancy remains in the work, many of which have subtle messages.

 • Phillip Acheles, 47, Main Street, artist. Phillip is a self-taught artist. He was selling this and other artists' paintings in down-town Port Au Prince, a sign that the economy is moving again, albeit in a limited capacity. "Not since 2006 has there been any prosperity in this country," says Phillip. "It has been in a state of political crisis for years now. Every time there is a small recovery, something happens and now the earthquake means the chance of selling paintings to tourists is once more very low."

 • People interact with a mural at Borough Market which serves as a personal dedication and homage to the terror attack at London Bridge by graffiti artist Jimmy C, on 4th April 2017 in London, United Kingdom. The heart shapes, which are a regular fixture of the artist’s work are a call to respond with love not fear. While the piece is not specifically designed as a memorial to those who died on June 3rd 2017, it is already being taken into people’s hearts where the attacks took place, and seems inevitable to become a focus for remembrance and commemorations in the future.
