  • A market researcher working for the Heathrow Aiport operator BAA, conducts her surveys in the departures concourses of this aviation hub's terminal 5. Asking very detailed but brief questions of this young mother and her rather suspicious daughter, both travelling to the US, the unseen woman employee samples opinion on the airport's performance and the passengers overall experience of using this airport. Terminal 5 has the capacity to serve around 30 million passengers a year and by analysing the data from these surveys helps the operator discover room for improvement. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009).

Now we have nothing. I even lost my shoes and have been barefoot for the last three weeks. Most of the families who lost people have left, they cannot bare to stay. We pray to cope with our sadness. A Dominican missionary came to give us courage, he told us we have to accept because we love God. "I often cry, but I still smile as well. As soon as the earthquake struck he made his way to the Radio station; by accident or design, some one had left Hotel California radio station playing on a loop. His staff were afraid to go in but he managed to persuade some journalists to come and chat about what had happened and has been broadcasting ever since. "We had a minimum of 5000 people outside all the time for four days (not the same people). We just gave them a microphone and then broadcasted messages all day. • Sprayed parking notice on the ground in a City of London side street. As a polite message asking taxi drivers not to park on this spot, the unknown person wants this location kept clear between certain hours - something one driver has chosen to ignore because it is a place for cabs to pick up fares beneath the newest of London's skyscrapers, known as the Walkie Talkie in the heart of the capital's financial district aka The Square Mile. The green lines and lettering looks prominent but seems to be ineffective as a means of asking for clear space.

While walking along the street near Trafalgar Square, the children of about 3 and 5 pause to glance sideways at the sleeping man with his hand outstretched, asking for loose change. This may be a shocking thing for the kids to see or possibly mildly interesting as they see many strange phenomena in Britain's capital. The latest annual figures show that 6,437 people were seen rough sleeping in London in 2012-13, compared with 5,768 the previous year, a 13% rise year on year and an increase of 62% since 2010-11.
