  • A dog owner bends down to pick up his dog's mess in an Autumnal park. Surrounded by autumn leaves, brown and yellow in afternoon sunlight, the man stoops to collect the dog's crap on the grass in Ruskin Park in the London borough of Lambeth. In the background are Edwardian period homes on Finsen Road, SE24. If in contact with such organic material, it's known to cause Toxocariasis - especially in children - a condition caused by bacteria that travels to the human eye so it is expected that pet owners take the faeces away, wrapped in plastic bags and deposited in specially-provided bins at various entrance and exit gates.

  • Seen through the window of Coates Wine Bar which contains small square patterns of frosted glass, the arched structure of Broadgate offices in the City of London, appears beyond. Trees whose leaves are turning into autumnal colour can also be seen blending into the landscape. Broadgate is a vast estate of office buildings developed in the Thatcher years, sitting astride the redeveloped Liverpool Street mainline station. We see the classic architectural feature that gives strength to large buildings - the load-bearing arch.

  • Swiss Chard in the gardens at Winterbourne Botanic Garden, the botanical garden of the University of Birmingham, located in Edgbaston, Birmingham, United Kingdom. Set in 7 acres, it is notable as a rare surviving example of an early 20th century high status suburban ‘villa’ garden, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement of the Edwardian period. Both Winterbourne Botanic Garden and Winterbourne House are owned by the University of Birmingham and are open to the public as a heritage attraction. Chard or Swiss chard is a green leafy vegetable. In the cultivars of the Flavescens-Group, the leaf stalks are large and often prepared separately from the leaf blade. The leaf blade can be green or reddish in color; the leaf stalks are usually white, yellow, or red.

  • Carnivorous plants at Winterbourne Botanic Garden, the botanical garden of the University of Birmingham, located in Edgbaston, Birmingham, United Kingdom. Pitcher plants are several different carnivorous plants which have modified leaves known as pitfall traps—a prey-trapping mechanism featuring a deep cavity filled with digestive liquid. The traps of what are considered to be true pitcher plants are formed by specialized leaves. • The leaves dropped from overhead ash trees have been blown off football pitch lines by council workers in Ruskin Park, London borough of Lambeth. Days before the weekend starts and the field is used by youth league teams, the painted lines are more visible than before when they were covered, inhibiting clear decisions during a game. It is a scene of regular order, of a regimented and tidy landscape that suggests what pointless job someone has during times of austerity - when Lambeth council is closing libraries, toilets and childrens' play facilities.

  • Visitors to the Kyoto Garden look into the water to see koi carp in Holland Parks’ Kyoto Garden, on 17th November 2019, in London, England. The Kyoto Garden was opened in 1991. It was a gift from the city of Kyoto to commemorate the long friendship between Japan and Great Britain. Today, the Kyoto Garden is a popular part of Holland Park – but it’s not the only Japanese garden in this green space. In July 2012, the Fukushima Memorial Garden was officially opened. It commemorates the gratitude of the Japanese people to the British people for their support following the natural disasters that struck in March 2011.

  • The lower legs of two boys playing basketball, partially intersected by a poster of a crowd - in a south London park. We look through the wire fence of this public space in southeast London in the borough of Lewisham. The faces and bodies of the audience look towards the viewer, a crowd of spectators perhaps created by CGI at some sort of event. And the juxtaposed lower limbs of the boys on the court are in reality playing their own game but still merge with the image, a trick of the eye especially as the legs seem to be matched to individuals.

  • A woman carries a red umbrella crosses London Bridge in the rain, southwards from the City on the north bank of the river Thames, to Southwark on the southern side. Heavy rain has just fallen on the streets and pavements of London leaving them shiny and wet and with added strong sunshine, the coloured brolley stands out from an otherwise monochrome background. There has been a crossing over the Thames since the Roman era, with successive bridges from modern bridge (1971-), Victorian stone arch (1832-1968), Medieval stone arch (1176-1832) and various wooden bridges (AD50-1176).
