  • Ganga Thampi, applies make up to her hands shortly before taking the staring role of Sita in the Indian epic Ramayana. She is both a teacher and one of the stars of  the traditional and highly prestigious Kalakshetra school for the arts, Chennai. The school was founded in 1936 and due to its exacting and demanding schedule is considered India's formost classical dance academy of this ancient cultural art heritage that is informally known as "temple dancing" and that dates back to the Natya Shastra, the 2000 year old text that lays down the principles of Indian dramatic theory and performance.
