  • From a very low viewpoint, we see crowds of British citizens who to and fro beneath the Gothic tower of Big Ben in Parliament Square, London at almost 10 minutes past 2pm . Lots of people squeeze past each other during the closing stages of London's Marathon as the pavements is narrower when crowd barriers control numbers. A young lady finds her way through other passers-by as the clock tower rises at an angle, the perspective of the wide-angle lens' distortion. The female's t-shirt has a woman's face from the xx clothing brand. This is also election time and the people are subject to the democratic process as they elect an new leader to govern the state.

  • Britain's Union Jack flag flies in a breeze with British Parliament's Big Ben clock tower at the Palace of Westminster in the background. As a symbol of parliamentary power and a national democracy, the colours flutter in a breeze alongside the Thames River on the southern Lambeth bank side. The clock shows just after 1 in the afternoon. The Palace, also known as the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace, is where the two Houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (the House of Lords and the House of Commons) conduct their business. It is therefore a potent symbol for British Governmental power, influence and a world-famous landmark for tourists. Big Ben is the name of the clock's bell and not the tower itself.

  • Scary: Street art by Ben Eine in the East End of London, UK. An ever changing visual enigma, as the artworks constantly change, as councils clean some walls or new works go up in place of others. While some consider this vandalism or graffiti, these artworks are very popular among local people and visitors alike, as a sense of poignancy remains in the work, many of which have subtle messages. Ben Eine is best known for the vibrant typographical letters that have popped up all over East London over the past half of the decade. These letters can appear on their own on shop shutters or can spell whole words across East London walls like “Scary”, “Exciting”, “Vandalism”, “Change” and “Calculate”.

  • Branches of winter Plane trees in the foreground and the clockface containing the Big Ben bell in the Elizabeth Tower of the British parliament, on 17th January 2017, in London England. The Elizabeth Tower previously called the Clock Tower named in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in her Diamond Jubilee year – was raised as a part of Charles Barrys design for a new palace, after the old Palace of Westminster was largely destroyed by fire on the night of 16 October 1834. The new Parliament was built in a Neo-gothic style. Although Barry was the chief architect of the Palace, he turned to Augustus Pugin for the design of the clock tower. It celebrated its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009. The tower was completed in 1858 and has become one of the most prominent symbols of both London and England.

  • Dawn light and silhouetted people with the Palaces of Westminster, Britain's parliament building on the far side of Westminster Bridge on the River Thames. Sinister figures can be seen on the steps leading down to the Embankment on the Southbank and on the bridge too. It is early morning on the south bank of the river and warm light shines on the Gothic architecture.
