  • Senior Machinist Supervisor, Tricia Randle finishes a red flying suit of Squadron Leader David Thomas, a pilot of the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team. Tricia is a bespoke seamstress at Dale Techniche, Nelson, Lancashire. Every Winter, the Red Arrows place about 40 pilot suit orders and 180 blue (support ground crew) suits. Tricia adjusts her thread while the suit is complete on her work bench. The clothing factory also designs the Red Arrows badges, each requiring 15,000 stitches. All suits are made from Nomex by the Du Pont corporation, containing 5% Kevlar. Flame-retardant, they fit exactly each team member. Fourteen different measurements are taken before the first suit is cut, each one requiring approximately three metres of dyed cloth. When a suit is complete, each one is signed inside by the machinist.

Feeling under the arm of his client, the taylor makes sure his measurements are correct before making final adjustments for the final garment. But outside are two people unaware as they pass the shop window, walking through a narrow medieval lane, a backstreet in the City of London, the capital's financial heart, founded by the Romans in 43AD.

  • Hermit, Tom Leppard, 72, has lived in seclusion at this unidentified spot on the Isle of Skye, Scotland for 22 years. He sits contemplating his quiet life in a self-made shelter largely cut-off from the outside world. Wind and rain-proof against harsh Scottish winters, his army survival skills keep him fit and healthy but his memory is fading and suffers muscular ailments. None of his possessions suffer from damp or mildew because everything he owns is wrapped in plastic containers carefully stored in special holes about his camp. Few know his exact whereabouts but concerned locals visit when weather prevents him from crossing a 2km-wide Loch in an old canoe. His days are spent washing, cleaning and carrying out maintenance jobs that keeps his home clean and fresh. Tom is a former solder and sailor and chose this spot when he sought ultimate solitude.

  • We see a close-up of rows of name badges awaiting collection by their owners at the beginning of an Ernst & Young Academy Day held for 3,000 of company London employees at Excel in London's Docklands, England. Stacked neatly, we see yellow, green and red lanyards wrapped around each individual Christian and surname. Some names yield clues to the peoples' ethnicity: Either White British like Julia and Rosie, British-Asians like Pratul and Neeraj and possibly British-Muslim like Jamal. Each employee will attend this fair where motivational pep-talks from executives, outside speakers and gurus will talk to large groups of E & Y personnel so their presence on this day away from the office is vital for the year's business ahead.
