Tim is hoping to forge a strong relationship with his new-found companion who confidently leads the way along the path anticipating and avoiding obstacles and dangers. Animals like Lewis don't start learning with a guide dog trainer until they are 12-15 months old. There are around 5,000 working guide dogs in the UK today, though the Guide Dogs charity care for around 8,000 dogs, including breeding stock, puppies, dogs in training and retired dogs.

Unexploded ordnance or UXO are explosive weapons, bombs, bullets, shells, landmines etc that did not explode when they were employed and still pose a risk of detonation. 'Bombies' are the most common form of UXO remaining - approximately 80 million unexploded bombies remained in Laos after the Vietnam War. They cause more accidents than any other type of UXO in Laos. Two year old Hmong boy Kayeng was blinded by a UXO accident whilst playing with his uncles nearby his home in Ban Tong. The photograph shows Kayeng with his grandmother Yee.

  • With a blindfolded trainer, a young Labrador dog learns how to negotiate obstructions and hazards as part of its training as a guide dog. There are around 5,000 working guide dogs in the UK today, though the Guide Dogs charity cares for around 8,000 dogs, including breeding stock, puppies, dogs in training and retired dogs. Before the young dog is allowed out into the real streets outside it must prove its natural ability to take its unsighted owner safely along a series of obstructive objects.

  • As a small monkey looks on through the thick glass of its enclosure, we see two unsighted children reaching out to feel the soft feathers of a Barn Owl. As part of their learning experience as blind (or near-blind) children as well as the extra therapy of heightening their touch sensensation.<br />
The Barn Owl (Tyto alba) is the most widely distributed species of owl, and one of the most widespread of all birds. It is also referred to as Common Barn Owl, to distinguish it from other species in the barn-owl family Tytonidae. These form one of two main lineages of living owls, the other being the typical owls (Strigidae). Drusillas Park is a small zoo near to Alfriston, in East Sussex targetting children aged between about 2 to 10. The zoo is home to many exotic wild and domestic animals with hands-on activities such as this.

  • Tourists outside The Forbidden City where this blind busker plays music for money. The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is located in the middle of Beijing, China, and now houses the Palace Museum. For almost 500 years, it served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government. Built in 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings. The palace complex exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture, and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987, and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.

  • An Ahmadiyya elder, blinded for his faith. Rabwah, Pakistan. Also known as Qadiani's The Ahmadiyyas are the followers of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani (1835-1908). According to his followers, he was the  founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at and The Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi. The Ahmadiyya (Qadiani) movement in Islam is a religious organisation with more than 30 million members worldwide. Ahmadiyyas are now banned from calling themselves Muslim in Pakistan and suffer terrible discrimination under anti-blasphemy laws and are regularly murdered for their faith.

Male contestants have lined up to be inspected by a blindfolded lady wearing a swim suit and painted nails who is required to identify her own husband by feeling his lower body and torso. Howls of laughter emit from the other men as the lady realises that this is indeed her own spouse who stands on a chair, his bulging crotch at chest height. She smiles to herself, still blind beneath a towel and the moment is funny enough for all to enjoy a happy hour of organised entertainment on deck. The Panamanian-registered MS Ecstasy is a 70,367 ton cruise ship carrying 2,052 passengers and 920 crew belonging to Vegas-style Carnival Cruise lines.

  • We see two unsighted children reaching out to feel the soft feathers of a penguin as part of their learning experience for unsighted (or near-blind) children as well as the extra therapy of heightening their touch sensation. The penguin belongs to Drusillas Park Zoo near to Alfriston, in East Sussex targeting children aged between about 2 to 10. The zoo is home to many exotic wild and domestic animals with hands-on activities such as this.

  • Unsighted or partially-sighted pedestrian crosses London Bridge during the evening rush hour. Using his stick to feel his way through the crowds and listening to the sounds of the city, he walks along surrounded by others on the pavement and in a passing bus. Commuters stride alongside a bus followed by others walking out of the City of London. There has been a crossing over the Thames here since the Romans first forded the river in the early 1st Century with subsequent medieval and Victorian stone bridges becoming an important thoroughfare from the City on the north bank, to Southwark on the south where transport hubs such as the mainline station gets commuters to the suburbs and satellite towns.
