  • Xieng Khouang is the most heavily bombed province in Lao PDR, the most heavily bombed country, per capita in the world. Unexploded ordnance or UXO are explosive weapons, bombs, bullets, shells, landmines etc that did not explode when they were employed and still pose a risk of detonation. Children play in home in front of several large bombs which may or may not be safe.

Two year old Hmong boy Kayeng was blinded by a UXO accident whilst playing with his uncles nearby his home in Ban Tong. The photograph shows Kayeng with his grandmother Yee.

After arriving at the clearance site, technician, Pheng examines her metal detector in a set aside area. The metal detectors radar is adjusted to penetrate the depth of 25cm in the ground.

  • The floral memorial shrine in memory of two young victims killed by an IRA bomb in the centre of Warrington, Cheshire, England, on 27th February 1993, in Warrington, England. Two small bombs exploded in litter bins outside a Boots store and a McDonalds restaurant, killing two children and injuring many other people. Although a warning or warnings had been sent, the area was not evacuated in time. Both attacks were perpetrated by the Provisional Irish Republican Army IRA. Three-year-old Johnathan Ball died at the scene, while his babysitter survived. The second victim, 12-year-old Tim Parry, who received the full force of the blast, was gravely wounded but died weeks later.

Two small bombs exploded in litter bins outside a Boots store and a McDonalds restaurant, killing two children and injuring many other people. Although a warning or warnings had been sent, the area was not evacuated in time. Both attacks were perpetrated by the Provisional Irish Republican Army IRA. Three-year-old Johnathan Ball died at the scene, while his babysitter survived. The second victim, 12-year-old Tim Parry, who received the full force of the blast, was gravely wounded but died weeks later.
