  • Ramlalthing is 14 years old. He has been in the center for 20 days. He has worked in a carpet factory for 3 years. His cousin took him without telling him where he was going. At first, he found it very difficult to learn how to weave the carpet. But progressively he learnt and became better. He was given food and clothes. His cousin told him money was being sent to his family but he found out later that it was not the case. He is in class 0 now.<br />

When he becomes older, he wants to become a teacher.<br />

The Nepal Good Weave Foundation work to get all children out of the carpet industry in Nepal. The Good Weave  Foundation runs a rehabiltation centre for children they have rescued from the carpet factories. Most of the chilren are illiterate and GWF provide the children with education based on their abillities.

  • Ramlalthing( centre, Bihaj is to the left.) is 14 years old. He has been in the center for 20 days. He has worked in a carpet factory for 3 years. His cousin took him without telling him where he was going. At first, he found it very difficult to learn how to weave the carpet. But progressively he learnt and became better. He was given food and clothes. His cousin told him money was being sent to his family but he found out later that it was not the case. He is in class 0 now.<br />

  • A boy,a former factory worker, skipping in his free time art the GWF centre with friends. He was found and rescued by NGF inspectors in a carpet factory and is now a student and resident at the GWF rehabilitation school and home. Biraj is 11 years old. He has been living in the transit home for the last 2 weeks. He is from a rural village 600km away from Kathmandu where his family is still living. He came with the brother of his brother in law to the factory. He worked there for 2 weeks to send money to his parents before he was identified by a NRF inspector. He calls his parents regularly from the center but has trouble reaching them because of poor network reception in his home village.<br />
<br />
Biraj says he is feeling happy in the center. He is now in Class 1 and learning more and more every day. He did not know he was taken to a factory at the time, he felt very surprised when he arrived. He wanted to go back home but his relative would not listen to him.  In the morning, he had to take care of the babies of the carpet workers and had to weave the carpets himself in the afternoon.<br />
<br />
When he becomes older, Biraj wants to become a policeman to catch thieves.<br />

  • Susmita, 12 years old. Susmita is 12 years old. She has been living in the center for over 10 days. Previously, she worked two weeks in a factory in Kathmandu valley weaving carpets. She started at 6 in the morning and finished at 8pm. She had only one hour for lunch and to rest between 10 to 11 am. Her mother left her in the factory. She knew a carpet worker who told her to bring Susmita. If Susmita didn’t finish her work on time, she would be beaten. Susmita has not seen her mother since although she has talked to her on the phone. She is in class 1 now. She was a drop out child before.<br />

When she becomes older, she wants to become a pilot and engineer.<br />

  • Having packed nearly all their possessions into a removal company's truck, a family have left this terraced house apart from a telephone that sits on the carpet in the middle of the carpet, on a ground floor home in Herne Hill, South London England UK. The family have taken the precaution of using a professional removal company, rather than trying to move themselves,  and we see a yellow storage van parked outside in the street ready to drive  the house's contents to the new property. This family home is now empty awaiting its new occupants who will soon arrive with their own items.

Southwark Council’s development partner, Lend Lease is regenerating over 28 acres across three sites at the heart of Elephant & Castle, in what is the last major regeneration opportunity in zone 1 London.   • Class 2, teacher Sunjana checking the work of Kusum, 13 years old. The Good Weave  Foundation runs a rehabiltation centre for children they have rescued from the carpet factories. Most of the chilren are illiterate and GWF   provide the children with education based on their abillities.
