• In the mid-day heat, Squadron Leader John Green is a member of the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team. Here he walks out alone to his aircraft, which is lined up with some of the others jets at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus before flying out to Marka in Jordan for the first display of the year. The Red Arrows arrive each April to fine-tune their air show skills in the clear Mediterranean skies and continue their busy display calendar above the skies of the UK and other European show circuit. We see John Green carrying his flight bag and life-vest over his shoulder. He paces confidently across the bright 'apron' dressed in his famous red flying suit that the Red Arrows have made famous since 1965. He is alone and striding confidently towards the matching red eight Hawk airplanes.

 • An out of focus post with a light bulb attached, shines in the bright daylight with the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Cocoa beach is on Florida's so-called Space Coast, a resort of beaches, clubs, seafood restaurants and motels that came to life during the 1960s due to America's space program. NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center is located approximately 15 miles away. The Atlantic Ocean is flat calm in settled weather and the horizon is clear and well-defined with a ship just visible on the right side. Focus is on the sea rather than the post and the light bulb which look like a surreal addition to the landscape. Cocoa Beach served as a playground for many of the astronauts and NASA space industry workers and contractors during the heyday of the space race. After manned space flights, the town held astronaut parades. Before there was a "Silicon Valley," Cocoa Beach and other surrounding towns were full of the best and brightest technical minds around.

 • Behind railings that honoured American aviator Wilbur Wright at the annual Le Mans air show, France, seven spectators gaze upwards to a clear sky where a lone but unseen aircraft performs in front of the French crowd. Wright made 110 flights at Le Mans and nearby Auvours in 1908 and his legacy for French and global aerospace lives on at events like this where a replica of his Wright Flyer was also exhibited. It is a bright summer's day and the blue sky has vapour trails left by a previous display pilot's jet engine. A prominent British Union Jack flutters on a pole and the words 'invites' (for invited guests only) are printed on to sheets of paper. Picture from the 'Plane Pictures' project, a celebration of aviation aesthetics and flying culture, 100 years after the Wright brothers first 12 seconds/120 feet powered flight at Kitty Hawk,1903.

The words Dim Sum Daily are displayed in neon lights above the person's head, its translated message is written on the top in Chinese characters. In the clear window we can see rows of Peking duck. It is early evening and the street is full of colour from the artificial lighting that creates an inviting mood for those browsing the menus on offer in this lively part of London's West End. The pedestrian is partly silhouetted and she stands in profile looking straight ahead as if ignoring what is on offer.

 • The massive IRA bomb in Bishopsgate Street in the heart of the City of London destroyed a substantial number of businesses and disrupted a major part of London's financial hub. In the days after the attack on 24th April 1993, we see the pictorial evacuation of smiling faces in a portrait of Pret a Manger staff, the sandwich and lunch chain (from the French 'Ready to Eat'). The image was hung above the premises and construction workers wearing hard hats transport the picture, like hundreds of other nearby businesses whose workers carried away company property, for temporary safe storage. This store was also badly damaged and had to be transferred to another location. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000. It is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City as it is known, is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area.

 • The Hamburg-registered Mol Caledon ship passes the giant dredging machinery at npower's Tilbury power station on the River Thames northern shore, Essex England. Having just departed from Tilbury Docks with the evening sun glinting off the stern's reflective surfaces, stacks of tall containers are heaped high but evenly spread for stability along the massive vessel. They head out towards open sea, navigating through deeper water channels that naturally get shallower as silt chokes the waterways. Historically, the Thames has long been a route for shipping that kept the capital supplied and although the docks have seen huge decreases in traffic and volume since the second world war, Tilbury remains a busy hub for containerized vessels arrivng from all over the world.

 • A 12 year-old boy walks along a frozen rural road with his pet dog following alongside during wintry conditions in North Somerset. The viewer also follows on as the lad walks towards his home on a hill, set near the bare mid-winter trees during a particularly nasty period of the Christmas holiday period. The boy's house is in the distance with wood smoke curling from two chimneys. The smoke wafts across the remote road in the Mendip Hills, recently cleared of snow but still deceptively icy. The low sun is slightly obscured by bare branches and offers little warmth to this bleak landscape.

 • Seventeen officer cadets march in line wearing full dress uniform with their rifles on shoulders past guests and VIPs at their passing out parade in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. The recently-graduated soldiers march in a near-perfect line looking over their right shoulders towards their commanding officers and VIP guests which sometimes includes Her Majesty the Queen. We see every face clearly and notice their different heights and sizes. Sharp focus is centred on the smallest man in the parade. The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS), commonly known simply as Sandhurst, is the British Army officer initial training centre. Sandhurst is prestigious and has had many famous alumni including Sir Winston Churchill, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Sultan Qaboos of Oman and, more recently, Prince Harry and Prince William. All British Army officers, and many from elsewhere in the world, are trained at Sandhurst. RMA Sandhurst was formed in 1947, from a merger of the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich (which trained officers for the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers from 1741 to 1939) and the Royal Military College at Sandhurst.

 • In an archaeologists' shed at the site of further excavations in Pompeii, Italy, the bones of an ancient Roman citizen is spread out on a metal sheet after being uncovered from Volcanic ash and pumice. Pompeii was buried beneath metres of toxic material from Mount Versuvius in May AD79 and this person was suffocated then crushed from falling debris. Preserved in a shell of volcanic material it is to be examined for desease yielding clues as to its lifestyle and eating habits. The skeletal remains are clearly identifiable with spinal column vertibrae, one jaw still containing teeth and various pieces of bone have been recovered. Many bodies littered a rooftop here proving that many survivors of the first eruption perished after the second many hours later.

 • A wide landscape of dereliction and poverty during the early 1990s in the city of Liverpool, England. The Liver building is seen in the far distance as a symbol of the city centre beyond an empty street up which a solitary man walks his dog. Empty buildings await destruction after the terraced housing has long been razed to the ground in the 1960s - the impoverished population having moved out for a better life elsewhere.

They are attending a classic car rally in Brighton during a Gay Pride festival, that this English seaside town regularly hosts during the hot south coast summers. The large 60s steering wheel is seen in the foreground and the vehicle’s leather seat looks shiny clean against the bright light. There is a classic car magazine resting on one man’s knee and they are clearly mad about this era of motor transportation.

 • Two children walk along a path between two dry stone walls in the countryside around the Yorkshire town of Settle. Striding between the boundaries of agricultural grazing land, whose trees and undergrowth has been cleared, the kids have come from a distant farmhouse which has recently lost its stock of sheep due to Foot and Mouth disease. Dry stone walls serve as boundaries and enclosures for farmers and land owners. Built by tradesmen called Wallers, a dying tradition and skill, they're constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together. The stones must be carefully selected by shape to ensure that they have a large contact surface area with their neighbours and so do not slip. They are a legacy of the movement towards enclosure of common farming and grazing land as English society moved away from medieval feudalism. Model released.

She is clearly relishing her food and has a large appetite while the boy seems to enjoy sucking on his fingers before the age where he can eat solids.
Senior resident Kathleen McCarthy said she now wished to leave, once obstacles are removed, and the majority of residents are expected to join her. Most plan to relocate to Oak Road, on the neighbouring legal site.

Dale Farm housed over 1,000 people, the largest Traveller concentration in the UK. The whole of the site is owned by residents and is located within the Green Belt. It is in two parts: in one, residents constructed buildings with planning permission to do so; in the other, residents were refused planning permission due to the green belt policy, and built on the site anyway.

Sustainable fishing methods and small scale fisher men syndicates are now common along the British coast. In Christchurch Bay a small band of fisher men catch their fish, lobsters, cuttlefish and crabs from small boats. They all fish according to the latest environmenttal guidance to keep their fishing as sustainable as possible. They then sell their catch as a syndicate to big export companies or fish shops in cities like London.

 • Win this Mercedes in a central London amusement arcade, a temptation for gamblers to enter an electronic draw. The bonnet (hood) of the supercar is pointed out towards passers-by in the street, a clear ploy to attract them inside to spend their money on a risk worth taking. The URL for the gambling support group 'gambleaware.co.uk' is carefully positioned in the corner to allow potential risk takers to decide on how to gamble responsibly. Some people gambling can become a serious problem, both for themselves and for their family, friends, and those concerned about them. Gambleaware provide tools to help them to recognise problem gambling behaviour.

The male friends sit on old chairs at a table surrounded by furniture from a nearby home. Chairs, units, cabinets, sofa seats, and music centres sit on the ground on which autumn leaves still lie on roadside grass. Perhaps out of economic necessity or merely to clear space in someone's home, the possessions need to be sold to passers-by, drivers on a road in this suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.

 • Looking down into a steep-sided valley, Distant streets and working-class terraced homes are beyond smoking chimneys from a Furnacite coking plant at Abercwmboi. Once known as the worst polluter in Britain it was owned by the National Coal Board (NCB) and sold to the Welsh Development Asoociation (WDA) for £1 Pound though arguments are still raging about how to clear it up and cleanup estimates range from £15-£20 million. The pollution had cruel effects on the local population. It made smokeless coal and locals joked that the plant took the smoke out and dumped it on the Cynon Valley but there was concern about toxic waste dumped in the village after the plant’s closure and some suffered birth defects. Ironically, the plant was closed because of environmental considerations.

The anti-capitalist demonstration that saw protesters camp outside St Paul's Cathedral in London was brought to an end by bailiffs and police. Protesters staging Occupy London were refused permission by the Court of Appeal last week to challenge orders evicting them from the cathedral steps, where they had been living in tents since October 15 last year. The City of London Corporation called on protesters to remove their tents voluntarily, but around 50 or 60 refused to budge. Some protesters created makeshift barriers out of wooden shelving units as police moved in to help bailiffs clear the camp. Police said 20 people had been arrested but the operation was largely peaceful.
