Stencilled on the cobbled surface we see the yellow lettering outside a block of flats in central London. In order to keep the entrance clear of obstructions in times of perhaps fire or other events, when emergency services would need to get through the gates. Cobbled roads klike this are now rare, having been upgraded by local authorities and replaced by smoother and modern materials.

  • Sprayed parking notice on the ground in a City of London side street. As a polite message asking taxi drivers not to park on this spot, the unknown person wants this location kept clear between certain hours - something one driver has chosen to ignore because it is a place for cabs to pick up fares beneath the newest of London's skyscrapers, known as the Walkie Talkie in the heart of the capital's financial district aka The Square Mile. The green lines and lettering looks prominent but seems to be ineffective as a means of asking for clear space.

It is a scene of regular order, of a regimented and tidy landscape that suggests what pointless job someone has during times of austerity - when Lambeth council is closing libraries, toilets and childrens' play facilities.

  • It is mid-day on the narrow stretch of river, green lilly pads float on its surface and in unbder a fierce sun overhead, three young men are lazily making their way to the viewer in a rowing boat on the River Thames near the village of Shillingford, England. The young male in the middle is the one rowing and he pulls on one oar to steer around an unseen obstacle in the absolutely calm, clear blue waters of this majestic river whose source rises in deepest Gloucestershire to its industrial estuary in the English Channel 215 miles (346 km) away. But here in Oxfordshire, we see an idyllic scene of adventure and peace on calm rural waters in a beautiful and tranquil setting, on an English midsummer day. 'Three men in a Boat' published in 1889, is a humorous account by Jerome K. Jerome of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford.

  • There is golden light across this narrow stretch of river, yellow flowers are on the bank and in late golden sunlight, two boys paddle upstream in their Indian canoe on the River Thames near the village of Shillingford, England. Lazily they plunge their paddles into the calm, clear blue waters of this majestic river whose source rises in deepest Gloucestershire to its industrial estuary in the English Channel 215 miles (346 km) away. But here in Oxfordshire, it is an idyllic scene of innocent childhood on calm rural waters in a beautiful and tranquil setting, on an English summer afternoon. The boys don't appear to be wearing life vests nor safety equipment but propel their craft forwards against the current with confidence.

  • In the mid-day heat, Squadron Leader John Green is a member of the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team. Here he walks out alone to his aircraft, which is lined up with some of the others jets at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus before flying out to Marka in Jordan for the first display of the year. The Red Arrows arrive each April to fine-tune their air show skills in the clear Mediterranean skies and continue their busy display calendar above the skies of the UK and other European show circuit. We see John Green carrying his flight bag and life-vest over his shoulder. He paces confidently across the bright 'apron' dressed in his famous red flying suit that the Red Arrows have made famous since 1965. He is alone and striding confidently towards the matching red eight Hawk airplanes.

The poster's message is simple and clear: That their customers and especially children, are our most important assets - our responsibility to protect their safety and well-being. Strong corporate Ikea colours are dominant, their well-known yellow and blue are known throughout Europe as well as the added banner in red. The fonts are in block capitals and possibly easy for young readers too to understand.

Wright made 110 flights at Le Mans and nearby Auvours in 1908 and his legacy for French and global aerospace lives on at events like this where a replica of his Wright Flyer was also exhibited. It is a bright summer's day and the blue sky has vapour trails left by a previous display pilot's jet engine. A prominent British Union Jack flutters on a pole and the words 'invites' (for invited guests only) are printed on to sheets of paper. Picture from the 'Plane Pictures' project, a celebration of aviation aesthetics and flying culture, 100 years after the Wright brothers first 12 seconds/120 feet powered flight at Kitty Hawk,1903.

  • As winter fog lifts, the waters of the River Thames clear to reveal an eerie landscape of industrial river life and architecture at Gravesend, Kent England. It is late-morning and in the hazy distance on the northern river bank, steam clouds near the double twin chimneys of npower's 1400MW coal fired Tilbury power station (powering 1.4 million homes using ‘biomass’ fuels and low-sulphur coal) which rise above the passing ghostly bulk of a cargo freighter on its last miles of its voyage from open sea into the Thames Estuary and on to Tilbury Docks. Historically, the Thames has long been a route for shipping that kept the capital supplied and although the docks have seen huge decreases in traffic and volume since the second world war, Tilbury remains a busy hub for containerized vessels arrivng from all over the world.

  • An out of focus post with a light bulb attached, shines in the bright daylight with the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Cocoa beach is on Florida's so-called Space Coast, a resort of beaches, clubs, seafood restaurants and motels that came to life during the 1960s due to America's space program. NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center is located approximately 15 miles away. The Atlantic Ocean is flat calm in settled weather and the horizon is clear and well-defined with a ship just visible on the right side. Focus is on the sea rather than the post and the light bulb which look like a surreal addition to the landscape. Cocoa Beach served as a playground for many of the astronauts and NASA space industry workers and contractors during the heyday of the space race. After manned space flights, the town held astronaut parades. Before there was a "Silicon Valley," Cocoa Beach and other surrounding towns were full of the best and brightest technical minds around.

  • Workman feed yellow plastic tubing through an under pavement shaft to clear a subterranean blockage, working beneath a round pastry post ad. The works are outside a corner shop (store) in the south London district of Waterloo (celebrating the famous battle victory by Wellington over Napoleon in 1815) and the site is half-covered by a barrier that prevents pedestrians from falling down the opened manhole cover on the pavement (sidewalk). The two men force-feed the plastic piping to free whatever is obstructing the route to another site 50 metres down the street. The visual pun of the coiled cabling and the swirls of the Danish pastries make for a humorous scene.
