In the 11th century, Luso was a sleepy village linked to a monastery in the hills near Coimbra but it became a lively spa resort in the 1700s as its hot water springs became a focus for tourism.

It has one of the youngest populations of all European city boroughs, having long been the epicenter of 'Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered and Queer life and Arts' in Berlin.

Algae and household pollution lies on the surface of the waters dug by navvies of the Victorian era when canals around Britain helped supply the industrial revolution with the raw ingredients to power the furnaces, mills and wharves of the transport age. This is a section of the River Neckinger that once flowed from south London into the Thames at Bermindsey but during the redevelopment of the warves into expensive riverside apartments, the waters were once again freed from 20th century dereliction.

  • Derelict buildings at the Crossrail Snow Hill Basement development at Smithfield on 1st February 2020 in London, England, United Kingdom. Smithfield Market, a Grade II listed-covered market building, was designed by Victorian architect Sir Horace Jones in the second half of the 19th century. Some of its original market premises fell into disuse in the late 20th century and faced the prospect of demolition. The Corporation of Londons public enquiry in 2012 drew widespread support for an urban regeneration plan intent upon preserving Smithfields historical identity.

It is located to the south of the city and is synonymous with social issues, degradation and poverty with some of the most underprivileged families in the UK. Recently many streets in the worst areas have been demolished  including Beatle Ringo Starr's childhood home.

His legs in boots are seen from waist down amid the unsafe flooring of this dangerous building. Tim works in the prevention of damage to old and ensuring new buildings are up to standard plus often, assessing the status of a collapsed structure. As part of the Big City Plan, Digbeth is undergoing a large redevelopment scheme that will regenerate the old industrial buildings into apartments, retail premises, offices and arts facilities. There is still however much industrial activity in the south of the area.
