  • A 3 year-old girl falls asleep before finishing her dinner, the food of which is still on the plate under her head, at home in her south London home. It is early evening and it has been a busy, tiring day that has ended rather suddenly over the dinner plate. Heavy felt curtains are drawn to block out the winter's night and the remains of her tea and half-drunk drink is on the table cloth.

Kenneth Clarke MP, the then-Chancellor in John Major’s Conservative government of 1994, these city and financial dignitaries have feasted well in the old Guildhall, the City of London’s town hall - the Guildhall - in the historic financial district of the capital. Wearing formal banquet attire, these chiefs of industry appear to be an all-male audience though there were also women sat at tables during the Banker's Dinner held every in June when the Chancellor of the Exchequer delivers a speech known as the Mansion House Speech hosted by the Lord Mayor, which takes its name from his official residence nearby. They concentrate on the speech to hear the Chancellor’s predictions for growth and prosperity.

  • A stray cat has an unexpected dinner of a fish head. All over Greece there are millions of stray cats and other animals. Very much welcomed by the Greek people, many of these cats are invited into homes, or at least fed outside. It is a culture of strays which is very evident right across the country.

  • Seen through the window of a generic central London restaurant, we see a family, possibly tourists, seated in full view of the street's passers-by, while ordering their dinners from a waiter. The man is standing over them, writing down a mother's orders while at the next row of seats, a man is also telling his own waiter what his dinner will be. An Open sign has been placed to attract more trade into this business, a favourite among tourists visiting Theatreland in the capital's West End. It is early evening and the background street is dark with other businesses illuminated. Other couples and customers are also sitting at tables waiting for their food to arrive and in the foreground, a young man sips a glass of Coke from a straw.

  • While seated to have dinner at home, a young boy of about 10 years of age hides his face and wipes his lips with a serviette. Demonstrating perfect manners that his parents must have instilled in him, the lad's face is hidden from the viewer as he presses the cloth to his face to obscure his identity. He is eating some sort of pudding with a spoon and a fork rests on the highly-polished table on which an ornamental posy of flowers is reflected. It is a scene of immaculate etiquette that a boy from a middle-class background might be expected to show to elders and visitors. It is an example of grooming and pedigree to take with him out into the outside world where he will be expected to be the best behaved.

These tough-looking men host visiting air crew whose flying careers depend on passing this rigorous week of escape and evasion instruction. Should they land in enemy territory for example, they will need all the skills learned here to survive possibly weeks in the wilderness so trapping and preparing fresh meat for human consumption is of paramount importance. Here the teachers stand around the venison which is strung up on a branch, its intestines and organs already removed by a hunting knife. • Theodore Kyriakou is seen in his Real Greek restaurant in Hoxton, East London. He smiles to the view dressed in chef's apron and with a pen behind his ear. This Greek-born chef once served in the military but realised his ambition to cook by coming to London and eventually being the co-owner of Livebait, the renowned London fish restaurant chain. In 1999, he finally opened a restaurant specialising in the kind of food his mother used to make. The Real Greek was in business, recreating many of the dishes he remembered, he introduced authentic Greek cuisine to a new audience. Kyriakou's parents ran a deli in Athens. His mother, a natural cook, didn't follow recipes, though many of her dishes are influenced by a 2,000-year-old cookbook, the Deipnosophistai by Athenaeus. She still gets calls from her son to check facts.

It is early evening and we see the blurred people moving about over the picture during a time-exposure of a few seconds. The colours of ambient neon lights that these streets are well-known for have become very vivid with bright pinks and reds a main feature of this scene. A menu board listing cocktail drinks prices stands on the sidewalk. Candles have been lit in glass jars on table tops. Ghostly, blurred Palm trees sway about in the coastal breeze against the fading sky of early evening. This is a vibrant district of tropical Miami, Florida. The place to hang-out and be noticed. Glowing pinks and blues are vivid in this scene where beautiful people and expensive cars cruise along slowly, each parading bodywork and personality.

  • Peering through the steamy window of a Chinese restaurant in London's Chinatown district, we see the shapes and forms of kitchen staff and customers in this lively scene. In the window are rows of Peking Duck with their skins cooked a crispy dark brown. Meanwhile, surrounded by cooking utensils and implements, the tools of their trade, two chefs busy themselves in the kitchen area, one's face shows him to be ethnic Chinese who is rubbing his hands in a cloth before continuing his chores. Two European girls are waiting expectantly for their dishes to arrive. Obscured by the steam and heat, a waiter in green bustles about this small eaterie.

  • A passer-by stands next to a menu from a Chinese restaurant in Gerrard Street in London's Chinatown, England. The words Dim Sum Daily are displayed in neon lights above the person's head, its translated message is written on the top in Chinese characters. In the clear window we can see rows of Peking duck. It is early evening and the street is full of colour from the artificial lighting that creates an inviting mood for those browsing the menus on offer in this lively part of London's West End. The pedestrian is partly silhouetted and she stands in profile looking straight ahead as if ignoring what is on offer.
