  • Tourists explore tourist sombrero trinket shops during their cruise ship excursion at Chaccoben Mayan ruins. Having disembarked from a Carnival Cruise ship at the port of Cancun, Mexico two excursion tourists walk towards a shop rack of the tacky Mexican hats, displayed under a tropical sun at the archaeological ruins of Chaccoben, Yukatan. Stitched with yellow edging and with a velvet top, the hats are prized by Americans on once in a lifetime vacations.

  • A group of cruise ship passengers prepare for a morning scuba diving in the blue waters off Cancun, Gulf of Mexico. Having left their ship for a few hours excursion into the warm tropical sea, the men and women ready themselves before submerging below the floating platform. With masks and snorkels already in place, they take turns to sit on a step and take the plunge. Many look unfit and unused to diving – especially the fatter, older man in the foreground. But for many this holiday is a trip of a lifetime so they won’t want to miss such an opportunity. The skies are blue and they are miles from land and the worries of work and home. They are here for adventure and have the money to make it happen.

  • American tourists admire one of their number riding who has hired a rickshaw in Hong Kong on what is called The Peak. A US tourist sits on the cart that is going to be pulled by its runner. Fellow travellers are taking pictures and smiling at their friend taken away from their group. The word rickshaw came from Asia where they were mainly used as means of transportation for the social elite. In recent times the use of rickshaws has been discouraged or outlawed in many countries due to concern for the welfare of rickshaw workers. Runner-pulled rickshaws have mainly been replaced by cycle rickshaws and auto rickshaws. The term "rickshaw" is today commonly used for those vehicles as well. The word "rickshaw" originates from the Japanese word jinrikisha = human riki = power or force, sha = vehicle which literally means "human-powered vehicle".

  • In the middle of a field serving as a grass car park, three couples celebrate the Ladies' Day event at Royal Ascot. Holding their glasses to toast a grand day out at this annual sporting event in the social calendar, the gentlemen are dressed in formal top hats and tails, the ladies in wide hats and summer dresses. Grinning and looking smug in their upp-class social status, they are seated eccentrically and comically around a plastic table with a tablecloth, two Candelabras and their picnic lunch plates full of fine food.
