  • Peeled and torn poster showing remains of woman's face and features in Soho, central London. The eyes of female models peer through the layers of torn paper in a small street in the capital - a vandalised version of what was once an expensive advertising campaign reduced to litter and waste. The resulting image seems almost abstract, an artistic statement of dystopia and finality.

  • A group of American interior design students sketch buildings adjacent while sitting on steps of public building in Florence's Piazza Di Annunziata. The small class is made up mostly of young women and there is a young man who is apparently teaching one woman how to capture the finer points of the architecture opposite. They all have sketchpads on their laps and are either looking into the distance, memorising the landscapes - or using pencils to reproduce these features on to paper. Florence and other Italian cities are full of young Americans studying music and painting, art and design, completing and complimenting US-based courses often as foreign exchange students or as residential terms.

  • A discarded ironing board with a grinning face leans awaiting refuse collection. The humanoid features form a funny face - the look of a person in turmoil in the hours before being loaded into a refuse lorry and shipped off to landfill or recycling. This is symbolic of our throwaway society, the human interraction between what we make and what we waste.

Another train passenger seems amused by the cartoon character's presence in these otherwise drab surroundings - Minnies' smile to the camera makes for a humorous moment for these commuters under the streets of London.

Arabesque arches and fine carvings adorn this finely-detailed Moorish architecture - well preserved by Spanish authorities. Alhambra (in Arabic, Al-Ḥamra) is a palace and fortress complex constructed during the mid 14th century by the Moorish rulers of the Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus, occupying the top of the hill of the Assabica on the south-eastern border of the city of Granada in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. The Alhambra's Moorish palaces were built for the last Muslim Emirs in Spain and its court, of the Nasrid dynasty.

  • The staircase of 2 Temple Place, on 17th September 2017, in London, England. The main staircase rises up from the Staircase Hall to the Gallery on the first floor. The staircase has seven mahogany carvings by Thomas Nicholls on the newel posts, these representing characters from Alexandre Dumas’s The Three Musketeers. As an example of a late Victorian mansion, it was built for William Waldorf Astor primarily as his state office by one of the foremost neo-Gothic architects of the late nineteenth-century, John Loughborough Pearson. Astor had emigrated to England in 1891 as arguably, the richest man in the world and no expense was spared when work began on Two Temple Place in 1892. Today, the building is owned by the Bulldog Trust and supports the charitable activities of the Trust through exhibitions and events hosted in the building.

  • The remains of a billboard, now laying on the ground in a south London street. After heavy rain the layers of the advert are lying on the pavement next to a railing whose shadows from afternoon sunshine make strong diagonal lines across this detail. The sheets are drying out but need throwing away, a disposable facet of this multi-media world. The face of a model looks shocked and surprised to be abandoned on the pavement like this.

  • A street poster for an arts event echoes the lace texture of an umbrella being used against the sun in the San Marco district of Venice, Italy. We see the repetition of shapes and texture in the poster and the real brolly, a coincidence of pattern and points.

  • Three crosses on the nave roof of St. Benedict church, Horning on the Nofolk Broads. With the nearest side in shadow, we see the flint stones set into the building's walls. St. Benedict lies half a mile east of the village and dates back to the 13th Century. This area of Britain is known as East Anglia, once the stronghold of Saxon tribes then later, of Norse Vikings before Christianity dominated the religious landscape. Christian sites of worship were built on pagan shrines to encourage the following of the new God.
