  • An anaerobic digestion plant at Her Majesty's Prison Guys Marsh, United Kingdom. This system recycles the prisons food waste into electricity. It is designed to be be 100% self-sufficient and is the only such system currently in use in the U.K. Prison Service. It works by turning the food waste into methane gas which is then used to run a generator. Solid waste from the process is also used around the prison as a fertiliser.

  • From the State Route 58 that makes its way through the Mojave Desert, we see just a few of the hundreds of wind turbines of the Tehachapi Pass Wind Farm. Spinning blades are seen close up, their pylon legs and towers secured into the ground by concrete and others on the distant hill sides, a multitude of white turbine blades. Development in the Tehachapi Pass began in the early 1980's and now is one of California's largest Wind resource areas, that generates electricity for other parts of the state. The area has multiple generations of wind turbine technology installed, including both single and double blade turbines, as well as the more modern three blade horizontal axis design. The older generation turbines generate kilowatts, and the modern turbines installed generate up to 3 megawatts, depending on the specific turbine and manufacturer.

The slogan 'Inspire a Generation' is written on a London 2012 banner asking Britons to help encourage and influence the next generation of young people into sport, to promote health and confidence in times of economic austerity plus poor health and diet.

  • Young women on a shop hoarding with pedestrians and an elderly couple about to cross Brutoin Street in central London. An image of young and older generations is seen at this busy crossing where young women stand to one side, out for a shopping trip along the fashionable and expensive Bond Street. To their left is an elderly couple who stand separated by a wide distance from the girls - a metaphor for the wide generation gap in Britain today. The young girls live in an age of materialism and wealth while the people from their grandparents' era have survived unanticipated hardship, war and technological changes. In the background are the faces and poses of fashion models whose androgynous looks are as different to the elderly as the females along the street.

  • The words Inspire a Generation for the main Olympic slogan on a sign in the Olympic Park during the London 2012 Olympics. Stretched across a bridge near the Riverbank Arena where the Hockey games are played, the British Olympic organisation (LOCOG) hope that as the tally for gold medals climbed, British youth will be inspired enough to take up sport when declining spending and interest has been a national issue. In times of austerity, schools and sports clubs had their budgets for sport reduced and Team GB's success raised more concerns for the future of British youth as potential medal winners.

  • Two young men dressed in office suits casually stuff their lunches during a hot lunchtime break in the Broadgate Estate in the City of London. Both with legs across knees, the lads in their 20s sit on a bench beneath a tree alongside the statue of a traditional gardener, slightly bent and equipped with hoe and wearing a wastecoat, hobnailed boots and flat cap, an iconic salt-of-the-earth workman. This scene suggests the social divisions of the working man: Of the young, educated post-war generation whose opportunities have afforded them a faster lifestyle, far removed from that of the physically-exhausted man whose life has been spent working the honest land. The English social divide is clearly represented here as the harshness of the manual labourer versus the youth of today, seen in the middle of the modern city.

  • A cloaked guide stands surrounded by a younger generation in beachwear, on a poster background in Burlington Arcade in central London. Standing still in the cold of a winter's day, the man is dressed in his dark and heavy cloak that helps keep him warm. But as the antithesis of winter days we see the summertime representted by the young people in summer swimming costumes, enjoying the warmth of a coastal pool, showing off the health and beauty of youth. It is a picture of generations, of seasons and wealth.

  • As a young office worker sleeps incongruously on a marble pavement, a street sweeper nearby brushes away litter with a small dustpan. The manual labourer wears blue overalls, yellow gloves and keys in his back pocket while the man in a wastecoat and smart trousers and polished slip-on shoes appears to be fast asleep, his fingers across his chest. This scene suggests the social divisions of the working man: Of the young, educated post-war generation whose opportunities have afforded them a faster lifestyle, far removed from that of the physically-demanding job of a man whose life has been spent cleaning and sweeping. English social differences is clearly represented here as the harshness of the manual labourer versus a lazy youth of today, seen in the middle of the modern city.

  • A train travels past an array of solar panels next to the line near Aldershot Railway Station on 23rd August 2019 in Aldershot, United Kingdom. This innovative project is the first in the UK to power the railway with electricity generated from solar power and, if successful, could see many Network Rail sites across the country adapting this sustainable energy approach. Riding Sunbeams is a social enterprise, run by 10:10 Climate Action. Built with Community Energy South and partnered with Network Rail and The Department for Transport and by InnovateUK. Aldershot, Hampshire, United Kingdom. Riding Sunbeams is a world leading project to connect solar panels directly into electrified rail routes to power the trains. Direct supply of solar power to rail traction systems has never been done. But it has huge potential - from metros, trams and railways in the UK and around the world.

The generation gap is shown here with the older people unconscious after a day in sea air while the lad with the energy of youth puts much effort into shovelling sand from the growing hole. If they are related, they are oblivious as to the dangers of excavating holes on tidal beaches.
