  • Shoppers browse the many jewellers shop displays on Florence's Ponte Vecchio. The Ponte Vecchio ("Old Bridge") is a Medieval bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewellers, art dealers and souvenir sellers. It has been described as Europe's oldest wholly-stone, closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge. To enforce the prestige of the bridge, in 1593 the Medici Grand Dukes prohibited butchers from selling there; their place was immediately taken by several gold merchants.

  • Intricate carving reliefs of Apsara dancers at Angkor Wat. Note that the dancer on the left is pushing her tongue out. In addition to this she has 6 levels to the points of her head-dress. Showing her superiority to the other dancer. This jewel in the crown of Angkor's ancient temples is a vision of beauty, might and Khmer architectural excellence. The five towers dominate the view, which you are led to trough outer walls, along causeways over the moat and past the two giant pools which act as a mirror of the vision. Consecrated at around 1150 to the Hindu god, Vishnu it is suggested that construction took 30 years.

  • Friends sheltering from April rains under a spotted umbrella walk past a hoarding featuring a leopard for a reopening Cartier shop in New Bond Street, one of two centres for the jewellery industry in the capital. The coincidental patterns on the leopard and the brolley seem comical. Cartier S.A., commonly known as Cartier is a French jeweller and watch manufacturer. The corporation carries the name of the Cartier family of jewellers whose control ended in 1964. Pierre Camille Cartier opened and managed the London Cartier store in 1902.

The lady has just hurried across the road, a junction with Piccadilly in central London and her shadow can be seen behind her. • An Italian commuter cycles on her bike across the central arches of the Ponte Vecchio over the River Arno in Florence. It is early on an autumnal morning and only two figures are seen but within a few hours this world famous tourist landmark will be teeming with visitors from around the world, their international languages heard across this location. In the background we see the still waters of the Arno and riverside buildings including the Uffizi on the left. The Ponte Vecchio ("Old Bridge") is a Medieval bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewellers, art dealers and souvenir sellers. It has been described as Europe's oldest wholly-stone, closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge

  • A jewellers on Piccadilly has it's windows broken by a protester. Anti capitalists / anarchists go on the rampage through central London on the back of the peaceful TUC protest march. The masked demonstrators ran a twisting route through the capital confusing the police and creating a situation which was very difficult to manage. The protesters attacked banks, shops and hotels, and the police in riot gear fought face to face with them as they were pelted with ammonia, paint and fireworks loaded with coins.

  • The shadow of a tourist is seen across a central pillar covered in graffiti on Ponte Vecchio that crosses River Arno, Florence. The names of past visitors are etched on the medieval plaster and beyond is a rower who sculls upstream on the river towards the boating club that lies just beyond the bridge at the water's edge.
