  • The beautiful landscape of Loch Garry (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Garadhin) Glengarry is seen as a late sun sinks below the mountains of the Scottish Highlands, near Invergarry. In the foreground we see the foliage of trees of Glengarry Forest that hug the Loch (Lake) and the Western hills in the far distance are near Loch Quoich. Glinting off the near-still fresh water's surface, the pools of shadow and highlights of the sun reflect like a mirror while approaching rain clouds lie across the top on the image like a blanket of bad weather coming soon to this peaceful and unspoilt place. Glengarry is one of Scotland's famous landmarks.

  • Fish River Canyon. The Fish River rises in the hills to the north and only flows sporadically, but over the millennia it has carved an enormous canyon 500 metres deep into the unstable surface of Namibia, to form the second deepest canyon in the world. The walls of the canyon are an object lesson in geology: every layer for the last 1000 million years is clearly visible.

  • Looking up from the ground, we see above our heads some Renaissance frescoes (the painting on the left is of Vienna) that were painted on the ceiling of the first courtyard in Palazzo Vecchia in Florence's Piazza della Signoria. The first courtyard was designed in 1453 by Michelozzo and the frescoes on the walls, representing scenes of the Austrian Habsburg estates, were painted in 1565 by Giorgio Vasari for the wedding celebration of Francesco I de' Medici, the eldest son of Cosimo I de' Medici, and Johanna of Austria, sister of the Emperor Maximilian. The harmoniously proportioned columns, at one time smooth, and untouched, were at the same time richly decorated with gilt stuccoes. Their faded appearance now lends them a quality of fine antiquity.

  • An unfinished and abandoned construction project in the town of Gogollos Vega, near Granada, Andalucia. All over Spain are building projects like this, left empty and unused, a sig of bad financial investment and land management where empty lots and landscapes have swallowed nature to be replaced by abandoned pavements, roads and superstructures. Here, we see a lone lamppost on the street's kerb, a green waste bin and an overgrown lot where weeds are thriving in this wilderness. In the background is a generic two-storey building left unfinished. As of 2010, it has a population of 2,068 inhabitants.

  • Collapsed roof of a farmer's barn by fallen pines after summer storms in a forest above Badia-Abtei in the Dolomites region of south Tyrol, Italy. The oldest barns in this region are called Tierstaller and follow the same basic design: That of for warmth in the long, hard winters in the mountains and for coolness in the hot summers. But farming has changed dramatically in the Alps. Barns reflect and accompany this transformation. In villages and open landscapes, more and more barns are abandoned, used for other purposes, or falling into disrepair. Contemporary farmers build new barns for stockbreeding, fruit storage, and wine pressing.

  • Lit by early sun that filters through mountain peaks to this remote village near Ulleri, in the Himalayan foothills, Nepal, we see the veranda of a tea shop that serves weary travellers trekking the Annapurna Circuit and traditional doko basket. Villages such as these partly-depend on the agriculture of rice-growing and also on the passing tourist trade. Western trekkers walk through these tiny communities on their way up the series of climbing trails of the Annapurna Conservation Sanctuary, a sometimes gruelling walk from the low hills of Pokhara to the higher altitudes of Annapurna, the (26,000 feet (8,000 metre) peak - and beyond. Tea houses are dotted along the trail offering lodging, refreshments and basic, but delicious food to the weary traveller and the landscapes are often shared with local livestock.

Lettering on the hoarding tells us the scene below is inspirational, a capital from a new perspective. Six Hawk jet aircraft of the elite team, taxi in after another training flight past warning boards that are appropriate for armed jet fighters at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus rather than aerobatic planes. From a low angle we see a wide landscape looking over the taxi-way markings that direct military airplanes. The Red Arrows aircraft are a deep red colour that stand out against the horizon in an identical line. It is a wide expanse of road surface, the yellow centre-lines are for the benefit of pilots who need guidance for parking areas after landing, or leaving towards the departing runway on the southern part of the Cypriot Mediterranean island. With the Red Arrows, the taxiing jets all peel off in unison to and from the parking area and these lines are vital for this technique.

This aerial landscape also shows in the foreground, the old Arab Albaicin quarter and surrounding barrios of Moorish city of Granada. The Albaicin Quarter is the old Moorish quarter across the River Darro from the Alhambra. When the Moors controlled Granada, this area of the city was the most densely populated. The streets are narrow and many of them do not have sidewalks. The houses are not very high and they are very close to each other. Alhambra (in Arabic, Al-Ḥamra) is a palace and fortress complex constructed during the mid 14th century by the Moorish rulers of the Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus.

  • A wide panorama aerial landscape of London Docklands in 1991 looking east from a new apartment tower block on the Isle of Dogs. Rising tall is the new Canary Wharf tower (known as 1, Canada Square) soon after its completion - and before the subsequently extensive development phases. This docklands development in east London is the product of the 1980s financial boom when during the office of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, huge building projects such as the Docklands consortium saw vast changes in London's landscape. By 2012 Canary Wharf contained 14,000,000 square feet (1,300,000 m2) of office and retail space. Around 90,000 people work here and it is home to the world or European headquarters of numerous major banks, professional services firms and media organisations.

  • 2012 Olympic wasteland and PR fantasy on a hoarding near the sports arenas in Stratford, East London. A landscape of utopian harmony and nature is viewed on the construction site board that surrounds a vacant plot a kilometre south of the Olympic Park and stadium site. In the background is a new housing tower block by design and build contractor, Ardmore for Genesis Housing Association, 150 High Street, Stratford, 704 homes, in five new residential blocks, one of which, at over 132 metres, will be one of the highest residential towers in London. This landscape is more dystopian however as the reality of the empty lot is not what is promised by the imagery on the hoarding.
