  • Razor Blade (real name Josh Stuart) as he calls himself has been playing blues since the sixties with his band the Deep Cuts “they kinda know me around these parts.” It helps to work 15 hours in the cotton fields to really sing the blues he explains. Something these white wannabe blues singers don’t really understand. With the cotton pickers migration north after the introduction of mechanization it is no surprise that something of the blues soul has left with them. The blues museum (0pposite in Blues Alley) is now as important an institution as any of the remaining blues joints.

  • The legendary crossroads of Highways 49 and 61 outside Clarksdake, Mississippi. In the juke joints around Clarksdale, Mississippi, Robert Johnson was known as the kid who could barely play the guitar he often carried. Stories are told of musicians inviting Johnson to join them on stage, knowing that, before he got very far, the audience would be laughing. He disappeared for a while. When he returned, no one who heard him could believe he was the same man. He blew everyone away, playing the songs that would make him famous, among them "Cross Road Blues" and "Me And The Devil Blues." Rumours started and a myth was born :Johnson did a deal with the devil here at the crossroads of Highways 49 and 61 and sold his soul in return for his musical abilities. Whatever the truth fans on the way to the historic Blues town of Clarksdale and and its Delta Blues Museum will often stop at Abe's Bar B Q on the intersection and pay homage.

  • An out of focus post with a light bulb attached, shines in the bright daylight with the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Cocoa beach is on Florida's so-called Space Coast, a resort of beaches, clubs, seafood restaurants and motels that came to life during the 1960s due to America's space program. NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center is located approximately 15 miles away. The Atlantic Ocean is flat calm in settled weather and the horizon is clear and well-defined with a ship just visible on the right side. Focus is on the sea rather than the post and the light bulb which look like a surreal addition to the landscape. Cocoa Beach served as a playground for many of the astronauts and NASA space industry workers and contractors during the heyday of the space race. After manned space flights, the town held astronaut parades. Before there was a "Silicon Valley," Cocoa Beach and other surrounding towns were full of the best and brightest technical minds around.

  • Timbered eaves with inscriptions and carved angels in the roof of Blythburgh church, Suffolk. Over the centuries it was thought that the Parliamentarian William Dowsing shot at the angels during the English civil war, in 1644. <br />
Several of the angels are peppered with lead shot. Here is another of those Suffolk legends; that Dowsing and the churchwardens fired muskets at the angels to try and bring them down. But when the angels were restored in the 1970s, the lead shot removed was found to be 18th century; contemporary with them there is a note in the churchwardens accounts that men were paid for shooting jackdaws living inside the building, so that is probably where the shot arises from.

Glastonbury is notable for myths and legends about Joseph of Arimathea, the Holy Grail and King Arthur and in Arthurian literature Glastonbury is identified with the legendary island of Avalon. • Sheep up for auction at the ancient annual Priddy Sheep Fair in Somerset, England. Kept tight in pens, the animals have been marked with aerosol spray to identify their ownership before the sale commences in this picturesque village in the Mendip Hills. Unauthorised visitors are forbidden to enter the catle pens, avoiding the spread of epidemics like Foot and Mouth. According to tradition, Priddy Sheep Fair moved from Wells in 1348 because of the Black Death, although evidence has been found of a Fair being held at Priddy before that. There is a local legend, which says that as long as the hurdle stack shelter remains in the village, so will the Fair.
