  • The words 'No Dumping' writing on an urban brick wall in the south London borough of Lewisham, SE5. Painted by hand on to London stock bricks dating perhaps, to the late-Victorian or early 20th century period, we see the writing asking local residents and business owners not to fly-tip in this unauthorised location. Councils like Lewisham will prosecute those found to be dumping waste and litter. Amusingly, we also notice that the letter P has been empasised with the use of red.

  • Fly-tipping left on a Lewisham street beneath a council sign threatening fines ad/or imprisonment. cardboard boxes, childrens' toys, a sofa and plastic can be seen on the ground under the sign - a blatant disregard for local bylaws and rules against the dumping of refuse and garbage. Enforcement officers operate in this area and they have the power to enforce penalties of up to £50,000 and/or six months imprisonment - a threat but obviously not enough of a deterent.

  • A Closed Footpath sign fallen into a hole during pavement works in the south London borough of Lewisham. A blue plastic barrier inexpertly blocks the broken paving stones at a pedestrian crossing in Brockley in south London. And we notice the upside down sign telling the public that the pathway is closed, dangerous to use and evidence of disruption to the inform or users of wheelchairs or childrens' buggies. Comically, the notice is itself, falling down the hole.

  • A memorial has been placed where two policemen called Tony and Mark died at A2 Shooters Hill, London, England, UK. Were we to ignore this place where someone's life ended, the victim would just be an anonymous statistic but flowers are left to die too and touching poems and dedications are written by family and loved-ones. Two read: “Metropolitan Police Memo. With deep regrets/‘C’ team, Lewisham.” And "May God be with your families at this time. From Custody.” From a project about makeshift shrines: Britons have long installed memorials in the landscape: Statues and monuments to war heroes, Princesses and the socially privileged. But nowadays we lay wreaths to those who die suddenly - ordinary folk killed as pedestrians, as drivers or by alcohol, all celebrated on our roadsides and in cities with simple, haunting roadside remberences.

  • The lower legs of two boys playing basketball, partially intersected by a poster of a crowd - in a south London park. We look through the wire fence of this public space in southeast London in the borough of Lewisham. The faces and bodies of the audience look towards the viewer, a crowd of spectators perhaps created by CGI at some sort of event. And the juxtaposed lower limbs of the boys on the court are in reality playing their own game but still merge with the image, a trick of the eye especially as the legs seem to be matched to individuals.

  • A P4 bus service destination Lewisham Station climbs Herne Hill early after fresh overnight snowfall in the south London area. During a mid-winter morning, when commuters are struggling to reach their work places, the capital also finds it hard for transport and infrastructure to keep running as normal. With its headlights on half-beam, the snow is still making this hill treacherous to climb as this heavy vehicle again starts from the bus stop, having lost its traction on the slippery road surface. A passenger alights, carefully stepping down from the bus onto the snowy kerb as other people walk uphill, preferring to make their own way. The snow rests on surrounding Victorian house roofs and in the distance; it is a bleak day in the misty urban light where high-rise flats (apartments) can be seen.
