  • A detail of wrist-bands in DnaNudges flagship store in Covent Garden, seen during the UKs Coronavirus pandemic lockdown period, on 26th May 2020, in London, England. DnaNudge is the world’s first service to use ones own DNA and lifestyle factor to nudge towards healthier choices. Following a quick and simple instore DNA test, consumers can start using a DnaBand to scan product barcodes and discover whether a food product is “red” or “green” for you. If the product is indicated as “green”, it is a good choice but if its red, the App will display a range of personalised recommended alternatives generated by science-led analytics.

  • Religious lifestyle choices seen in a faded picture of Christian family morals, outside a Catholic church, on 18th July 2016, at Costa Novo, near Aveira, Portugal. Fading and suffering from green algae, the picture of the perfect family who attend Mass is seen in front of the tall cross and building exterior. There are an estimated nine million baptised Catholics in Portugal 84% of the population, in twenty dioceses, served by 2,789 priests. 19% of the national population attend mass and take the sacraments regularly.

  • Aspirational illustration of future housing development where gentrification is happening in Camberwell, south London. The illustration conveys a fantasy for many, for a quality lifestyle in affordable housing though the reality is far from this as ordinary people struggle to afford a place to live of their own. Camberwell is undergoing massive change as new flats and apartments are built to satisfy the government's need to develop housing for a population desperate for new homes. The image and graffiti seem to have been written as a no hope, disrespect to those wanting their own property.

  • A gentleman dressed in a pin-stripe suit favoured by older workers in England, exhales the smoke from a fat cigar during a lunch-hour in Trinity Square in the City of London. The man is overweight and leads an unhealthy lifestyle, his chin overlapping his striped shirt. The cigar is held at the tips of two fingers and we can see in profile the billowing of a smoky cloud from the man's lips. Government statistics suggest that in 2001, 27% of adults aged 16 and over smoked cigarettes in England; 28% of men and 25% of women. 66% of smokers in England wanted to give up smoking but more than 120,000 deaths were caused by smoking in the UK in 1995; that is, one in five of all deaths.

  • In an archaeologists' shed at the site of further excavations in Pompeii, Italy, the bones of an ancient Roman citizen is spread out on a metal sheet after being uncovered from Volcanic ash and pumice. Pompeii was buried beneath metres of toxic material from Mount Versuvius in May AD79 and this person was suffocated then crushed from falling debris. Preserved in a shell of volcanic material it is to be examined for desease yielding clues as to its lifestyle and eating habits. The skeletal remains are clearly identifiable with spinal column vertibrae, one jaw still containing teeth and various pieces of bone have been recovered. Many bodies littered a rooftop here proving that many survivors of the first eruption perished after the second many hours later.

  • A lady is about to cross the road with macho men models in a Tommy Hilfiger bus ad behind, in the City of London. About to walk out and cross the road in the heart of the capital's financial district (founded by the Romans in the 1st Century) the woman stands in a pool sunlight unaware of the adverts behind her. We see the ripples of abdominal muscles on the torsos of two men, seemingly drying themselves with branded towels - the epitome of male sexuality and sex-appeal that helps sell lifestyle products.

  • A family relax in late-afternoon sunshine and wood smoke in a quiet field at Woodland Tipi and Yurt Holidays near Little Dewchurch, Herefordshire. We see the sun shining through pine trees and long shadows stretching through the fresh grass where camping seats and a camp-fire is billowing clouds of smoke, just like in the days of cowboys and indians. The holidaymakers are staying in 17 acres of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, experiencing the peace and tranquillity of tipi and yurt camping in their own private, secluded valley - an ever-increasingly popular holiday adventure that is both green and carbon neutral since they are not using electricity for heating or cars to travel. It is also a stress-free lifestyle, away from the pressures of work and urban life, where travellers can unwind safe in the knowledge they are helping the environment.

  • Two young men dressed in office suits casually stuff their lunches during a hot lunchtime break in the Broadgate Estate in the City of London. Both with legs across knees, the lads in their 20s sit on a bench beneath a tree alongside the statue of a traditional gardener, slightly bent and equipped with hoe and wearing a wastecoat, hobnailed boots and flat cap, an iconic salt-of-the-earth workman. This scene suggests the social divisions of the working man: Of the young, educated post-war generation whose opportunities have afforded them a faster lifestyle, far removed from that of the physically-exhausted man whose life has been spent working the honest land. The English social divide is clearly represented here as the harshness of the manual labourer versus the youth of today, seen in the middle of the modern city.

  • David Reynolds (aka Eco) is a long-term activist, campaigner in the peace movement and resident of the Faslane Peace Camp, Scotland. His home of three years is called the Earth Shack and is largely re-cycled from scrap and garbage found locally on rubbish tips. Eco leans against his garden fence holding a mug of coffee this chilly Sunday morning. Signs of his political beliefs adorn the place: CND logos and Peace on Earth statements. His mother was a ‘Carnie’ (after the word Carnival, someone working on the fairgrounds) so perhaps it’s from her that he more enjoys an alternative outdoor camping lifestyle after a few years in the army. Faslane Peace Camp is a makeshift site alongside Faslane Naval base where Trident nuclear deterrent missiles and submarines dock. The camp has been occupied continuously, in a few different locations, since 1982.

  • Decorator and part-time chimney sweep Alan Squires prepares to apply another coat of emulsion paint to the exterior walls of a cottage called Burnside in the tiny hamlet of Hallin, Waternish, on the Isle of Skye, Scottish Highlands. With his shadow looming large on the newly-painted off-white pebbledash that is rendered a warm orange in the low sunlight, Alan walks with his long roller after a day's decorating in this beautiful place near Dunvegan. Alan is an Englishman who came to Skye in 1987 for the community spirit. "everybody knows everybody' he says though admits that southerners come from the south in search of an idyllic lifestyle but harsh winters often send them back to warmer climates. Alain's fresh paint therefore needs to dry before winter weather blows in from the Atlantic. Image taken for the 'UK at Home' book project published 2008.

  • The last light of day fades on the still waters of Sgeir Nam Biast, a bay overlooking Waternish Headland, near Dunvegan, north-west Isle of Skye, Scottish Highlands. A solitary light bulb glows from an upstairs room in this isolated cottage across the calm lake. The weather is perfect but unusual for one of the wildest parts of Britain. Farming practices have changed irreversably in a generation and many residents have English accents rather than that of native Scots islanders as city dwellers from the far south seek an alternative to urban lifestyles. The weather can have adverse effects on those unprepared for such wild conditions, especially during harsh winters when violent storms batter these Atlantic coasts. But old crofts have been converted to bed and breakfast homes, catering for tourist visitors who adore this form of idyllic escapism.<br />
