  • A man reads a book while sitting astride an old concrete-filled oil drums at the entrance to an East London railway tunnel. Wearing dark glasses and reading a book about successful business plans. The six solid drums serve as a heavy deterrent for any vehicles expecting to drive through the dark underpass. This is near Brick Lane, an area of now mainly the Bangladeshi and artists' community but also of a new development of cross-London railways that have changed the area irreversibly. The tunnel is a turning off Sclater Street that formed part of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's subterranean Bishopgate Goodsyard in use between 1840 to 1964. Partly demolished in 2004, the rails now carry overland trains on the Crossrail project.

While standing erect, he twists a high-tension tool that secures the concrete sleepers to the steel rails using a Pandrol Clip. Its sections are reinforced concrete, shaped for the Heathrow Express electric Siemens-built trains that provide a direct link between Heathrow's terminals and Paddington station in central London. This is now the most expensive rail-mile fare in the UK at £15.50 for a 15-minute journey. In 1994 one tunnel collapsed without warning in one of the most catastrophic civil engineering disasters in British history.

  • A lone passenger gazes out from the departure lounge at Charles de Gaulle/Roissy airport terminal to where airliners are parked. It is late evening and blue light outside makes the orange interior look warm. Designed by Paul Andreu, Charles de Gaulle became a symbol for airport modernity - a Le Corbusier concept of rail stations and ‘autodromes.’ Charles de Gaulle’s role as airport and rail station fuses into one, thus becoming an ‘Aérogare’ where trains and planes whisk the new world traveller of the late ‘60s, away beyond an ever-extending horizon. From here, the Air France Concorde crashed on the aviation employment town of Gonesse on July 25th 2000. • Workers laying new tram tracks on Broad Street as the Coronavirus lockdown continues, the city centre is still very quiet while more traffic and people are returning, and with restrictions due to be relaxed further in the coming days, the quiet city may be coming to an end as businesses are set to start to reopen soon on 27th May 2020 in Birmingham, England, United Kingdom. The Midland Metro is a light-rail tram line in the county of West Midlands, England, operating between the cities of Birmingham and Wolverhampton via the towns of West Bromwich and Wednesbury. The line operates on streets in urban areas, and reopened conventional rail tracks that link the towns and cities. Coronavirus or Covid-19 is a respiratory illness that has not previously been seen in humans. While much or Europe has been placed into lockdown, the UK government has put in place more stringent rules as part of their long term strategy, and in particular social distancing.

  • Alongside the A5 highway, an industrial landscape is illuminated in light from roadside street-lighting. Reeds are in the foreground in front of a giant generic warehouse that glows from its own territory. Grass is next to the crash-barrier and faint mist is seen on this cold winter night at the DIRFT warehouse logistics park in Daventry, Northamptonshire England. This 365 acre site off Junction 18 of the M1 motorway is a hub for road, rail and service infrastructure, some 2.3m sq.ft. of distribution and manufacturing floorspace had been constructed by 2004 and occupiers including Tesco’s, Tibbett & Britten plc, Ingram Micro, Royal Mail, the W.H. Malcolm Group, Eddie Stobart Ltd, Wincanton and Exel, have been attracted to this unique logistics location.

  • On Sydney Street, SW3, a busy thoroughfare through the smart borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we see a build-up of rush-hour traffic where cars are queued up with their headlights on, waiting for lights to change. Also waiting, at a bus stop, is a single-decker bus on its way from south London. Opposite is a rarer sight, an old classic Routemaster bus about to pull away from its stop too. Note that driving is on the left-hand side, unlike other countries. In the distance are the tall towers of the Victoria and Albert Museum on the Brompton Road and on the right are the very expensive terraced houses whose balconies are edged with plants and railings. The camera's time-exposure has blurred many vehicles that have passed-by only registering their rear lights..
