• An elderly and eccentric couple sit on a park bench in the French Mediterranean resort of Juan-les-Pins near Antibes, with their own pet dog on a lead while watching an Afghan Hound which struts past in a showy manner. The shaggy Afghan's coat resembles the colour of the lady's own pet and the texture of her own coat. It is around mid-day and looks warm but the couple are dressed for deepest winter, oblivious to the warm sunshine. The hairy Afghan strides ceremoniously and with great style, while the small pooch on the peoples' lead looks nervous and uncomfortable. Juan-les-Pins is a town in the commune of Antibes, in the Alpes-Maritimes, in southeastern France, on the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur).

 • Dwarfed by a Giant Sequoia tree (Sequoiadendron giganteum), a female tourist stands with a map of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park in the southern Sierra Nevada range, California. The lady looks diminutive next to this natural plant which are some of the largest organisms in the world, often between 1800 and 2700 years old. The Park is a famous landscape in this wilderness where the fourth largest Giant Sequoia is called The President, a 240.9 foot high tree with a circumference of 93.0 feet and a volume of 45,148 cubic feet. • A small boy shows a fascination for a huge tractor wheel at the Lambeth country fair in inner-city south London. Possibly never having seen a large machine such as this at close-quarters, the lad stares at the giant nuts that attach the wheel to the main frame. Perhaps he is captivated by its immensity and scale, so much larger than his toy vehicle at home in his toy box.

 • As her younger brother makes mischief in the background, 4 year-old girl looks at her appearance in front of a large mirror in her own bedroom at home in south London. In her own private play world, the girl uses a soft brush and looks at herself in the large mirror and she stands on her bed strewn with a girl's fluffy toy characters including a 'Raggedy Ann' and a rabbit. In the background is a naughty little brother who has been searching for something in his sister's cupboard.

 • Large block of flats boarded up and slated for regeneration on Walworth Road in the area of Elephant and Castle, South London. This apartment tower block has been closed up with metal boards for some years now and there seems little evidence of the redevelopment that is mentioned on nearby signs. This is a stark sign of the seeming failure of planners to regenerate valuable housing space in London. With many people on the council housing lists waiting for years to be housed, blocks like this appear like a monolith to the misdirected ideas which leaves swathes of disused housing in the capitel while plans for building new homes goes ahead.

 • Old industrial factory and warehouse buildings in Bordesley on 3rd August 2020 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Birmingham is still very much an industrial city both current and past, with many of these works buildings incredibly close to the city centre. Despite the ongoing Big City Plan, a large redevelopment scheme that will regenerate the old industrial buildings into apartments, retail premises, offices and arts facilities, there is still a great deal of industrial activity in the area.

 • A family of four watch the River Seine from the south bank (Rive Gauche) beneath the Pont d'Iéna. The four people start in size from large to small as they look out across the waters of the French capital's main river. Pont d'Iéna ("Jena Bridge") is a bridge spanning the River Seine in Paris. It links the Eiffel Tower on the Left Bank to the district of Trocadéro on the Right Bank. The structure was designed with five arches, each with an arc length of 28 m, and four intermediate piers. The initial construction, the cost of which was enormous at the time, was fully financed by the State and spanned six years from 1808 to 1814.

 • The mountains of High Albania. As a result of years of regional turmoil and unrest, few have explored the ‘cursed’ Prokletije mountains of Albania.

“The land north of Scutari, called Maltsia e madhe, the Great Mountain Land, is the home of five large tribes–Hoti, Gruda, Kastrati, Skreli, and Kilmeni. It is part of the same group of mountains that form the bulk of Montenegro–the grey wilderness of barren rock, called Karst, that glares dazzling in the midsummer sun and beats back the heat with cruel force, takes wondrous blue and mauve shadows at dawn and even, and,
when wet, is the heavy purple-black of a thunder-cloud. Very little of it is cultivable. Great tracts are waterless, depending solely on rainfall–aching wildernesses, the bare bones of a half-created world.” Edith Durham.

As part of an annual event in Ruskin Park in the London borough of Lambeth, neighbours and friends meet for an afternoon of self-initiated events including this contest of strength and teamwork. Both big kids and younger people join in and either help pull or simply hang on as the rope on their side either wins or loses.

 • Concrete wall and bare emergency exit stairwell of City of London new development. Diagonals of left and right show us the open-plan staircase for this future office building, still under construction. There is no render or decoration and temporary rails can be seen fixed to the concrete structure for this potential emergency exit. There is little colour in the architectural detail of 21st century modernity.

 • With a large hand from her worried mother gently caressing her head, a tiny premature new-born born baby sleeps on its side with an oxygen tube in its nose, while gathering strength in her incubator at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London, England. In her warm cot, a toy bear looks on in the corner and a poem writen on a card from the baby's parents has been attached to the plastic wall. It is a tender moment of hope, that this precious young human life can continue to grow into adulthood and be loved by all. The Royal London Hospital is one of London's oldest, having been founded in 1740 and is a major teaching hospital in Whitechapel, East London.

Coronavirus or Covid-19 is a respiratory illness that has not previously been seen in humans. While much or Europe has been placed into lockdown, the UK government has put in place more stringent rules as part of their long term strategy, and in particular social distancing.

 • During an August heatwave, the population of Brixton and many others from all over London, bask in the glorious weather at the Brockwell (Brixton) Lido in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, South London. The Lido is a magnet for families, select groups, the young and old and represents an amalgam of humanity who enjoy the benefits of outdoor bathing and the friendship of meeting old friends and new acquaitances. We see two men of Afro-carribean origin who have a corner of the Lido to themselves. One wears a towel wrapped around his lower-body and sits, arms folded with a look of territorial superiority while the other applies sun lotion to his leg. There is little space left on the full pavement which retains its solar heat long after the sun has left the quadrangle of the lido's oblong design but their colourful towels and possessions are spread out on the paving stones along with childrens' toys including an Action Man toy soldier who is also tanning himself. It is a scene of fun for all ages and backgrounds. Brockwell Lido is a large, open air swimming pool in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, London. It opened in July 1937, closed in 1990 and after a local campaign was re-opened in 1994. Brockwell Lido was designed by HA Rowbotham and TL Smithson of the London County Council's Parks Department to replace Brockwell Park bathing pond. It is now a Grade II listed building

 • The Rt. Hon. Tony Blair MP, as Leader of the Opposition, stares in deep thought whilst on a train en-route to an evening Labour Party rally in Nottingham, 2 years before his victory in the 1997 General Election that eventually made him British Prime Minister. Blair is with an unknown Downing Street assistant and is has been reading the London Evening Standard newspaper in the First Class carriage at a time when fellow-passengers take little notice of the future controversial world statesman. Then, he could travel in relative obscurity, without large security details. Blair is wearing a blue shirt with a sober, patterned tie and his hair is still dark without the greyness that would appear rapidly when the pressures of office prematurely aged him. It is dark outside and we see no detail through the window of the vast Victorian mainline station outside.

Unlike most of the temples of Angkor, Ta Prohm has been largely left to the clutches of the living jungle. With its dynamic interaction between nature and man-made art, this atmospheric temple is a favorite for many - who can't help but feel a little like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft (which was filmed here) as they pick through the rubble.
Construction on Ta Prohm began in 1186 AD. Originally known as Rajavihara (Monastery of the King), Ta Prohm was a Buddhist temple dedicated to the mother of King Jayavarman VII.

 • A wild bather swims the breast stroke in mountain waters of River Shiel in Moidart on the Ardnamurchan peninsular, Western Scotland. Viewed from a high viewpoint, an aerial perspective from a nearby bridge, we see the man having entered the water from rocks, and out into the current which will take him under the bridge and into a wider channel. Ripples expand outwards from the man. The water is pure and clean, having come from mountain streams and springs, if a little cold. But the swimmer is wearing a wetsuit to protect him from the chill. It is a near-perfect place that is largely secret from outsiders.

The anti-capitalist demonstration that saw protesters camp outside St Paul's Cathedral in London was brought to an end by bailiffs and police. Protesters staging Occupy London were refused permission by the Court of Appeal last week to challenge orders evicting them from the cathedral steps, where they had been living in tents since October 15 last year. The City of London Corporation called on protesters to remove their tents voluntarily, but around 50 or 60 refused to budge. Some protesters created makeshift barriers out of wooden shelving units as police moved in to help bailiffs clear the camp. Police said 20 people had been arrested but the operation was largely peaceful.
