  • In a far corner of a caravan site is a dog exercise area, strictly for where pets can be walked on their leads, sniff and meet other animals and allowed to foul the grass as long as owners clear up their mess and deposit it in the dustbin provided on the path. A sign saying Dog Walk has been staked into the ground and clearly indicates the grassy location, avoiding confusion and argument. The countryside is green at this location in Looe in Devon, England, run by the prestigious Caravan Club of Great Britain whose membership stands around 1 million members. People are allowed to bring pets to only certain sites where areas like this are provided and families prefer to bring their dogs on holiday with them rather than pay for kennels.

  • Spanish World Cup football fans celebrate in Trafalgar Square the morning after their team's victory in South Africa. With a summer sky overhead, we we see on top of one of the four lions that corner the plinth of Nelson's Column, two young male Spaniards, one of whom is holding the Spanish colours (known commonly as Rojigualda) complete with the outline of a bull. The four lions were designed by Sir Edwin Landseer. Positioned at the column's base, they were added in 1867 many years after the Square was developed between 1840 and 1843 to commemorate Admiral Horatio Nelson's death at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. It is not without too much irony that the British nation's former enemy show their flag at this famous location, known for a victory over Napoleon.

It is now a radar base and part of the United States-controlled Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS).

Before their demolition by Ministry of Defence contractors this early attack warning Cold War facility, consisted of three 40-metre-diameter 'golfballs' or geodesic domes (radomes) containing mechanically steered radar. They became a local tourist attraction and coach tours drove past the site listening to the interference on radios emitted by the radomes. They have since been replaced by the current tetrahedron ('pyramid') structure and is still a secret location. Its Motto is "Vigilamus" ("We are watching"). It is now a radar base and part of the United States-controlled Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS).

  • As blue light fades on a bitterly cold winter's evening, the barrier of an Austrian level-crossing has been lowered to stop traffic and allow a high-speed ICE-T train to continue on its route through, near Salzburg, Austria, Europe. OBB, the Austrian Federal Railways operate a network of 5,683 km makes them the by far largest railway-company in this country. Heavy snow has fallen in this region of the Alps and deposits have settled on the fences and the glowing red stop traffic light, signalling for motorists to halt at this dangerous road-crossing location. So fast is this mode of transport, it blurs past this cold, desolate spot where only one nearby house is next to the trackside. (From a story about travelling through 6 European countries by coach in 7 days).

  • The artist Rachel Whiteread CBE (born 1963) sits on the steps of her best-known sculpture called 'House'. 'House' stands alone on a now-empty and house-less East London street. Oddly, the contours of the structure have been inverted to reveal an inside-out version of the original building. It is a concrete cast of the inside of an entire Victorian terraced house completed in autumn 1993 and exhibited at the location of the original property — 193 Grove Road — in East London (all the houses in the street had earlier been knocked down by the council). It won Whiteread the Turner Prize (the first woman to do so) for best young British artist in 1993. Here we see 'House' at a close distance with graffiti painted on the walls stating the words "Wot for ..why not!" before it was controversially demolished by the council in January 1994.

  • Holy water on tap and restored stone wall behind the Shrine Altar at Aylesford Priory (Friary). The wall is not original as the buildings on this Christian ancient site were damaged by King Henry VIII during the dissolution of the monasteries of the 16th century. This structure was repaired after WW2 for the benefit of those pilgrims on retreat at this quiet location in the county of Kent, southern England.

  • Looking up towards majestically tall Ash trees and blue skies, the sun glints off a window pane in an Edwardian age semi-detached house on Ruskin Park, Denmark Hill, SE24 (its post code) South London England. It is a beauitiful winter afternoon in this inner-city suburban district of Britain's capital, approximately 5 miles south from the River Thames. A couple are walking their dogs past an elegant line of period homes that were completed in 1908, the age of innovative building in the new 20th Century. The properties overlook the borough park named after John Ruskin, the renowned artist and commentator who lived in nearby Herne Hill. It looks an affluent area, a prosperous location to invest in a mortgage in uncertain times with market prices falling during the credit crunch and recession.

  • As evening light fades, bright light from the electricity-hungry Canary Wharf docklands development is supplied by the voltage from electricity cables and supporting struts at West Ham sub-station, Canning Town, London England. A network of 110 miles of cables have stretched across 542 'L6' pylons across England's Kent countryside, from the coal-fired power station at Dungeness to this location, carrying 40,000 Volts along this network of aluminium cables to power some of London's high supply demands. Insatiable appetites for energy means electricity is now an expensive comodity after climbing oil prices doubled electricity utility bills for some domestic users.
