  • Hunter Byron Grubb duck hunting at dawn on a hilltop south-east of Minot. The duck hunters travel in the dark to the place they suspect will be the morning feeding roost for ducks. As the sun comes up they have prepared decoys in the field and hide behind some undergrowth in their camouflage clothing. As the sun rises soem ducks take to the air for their morning feed. As they draw near the hunters make female and feeding duck calls to attract the flying birds towards the decoys and to within shooting range. The moment they are close enough the hunters quickly take aim anf fire their shotguns; some of the ducks fall to the ground. A great deal of work and effort goes into this type of shooting, with the result being a few fine Mallards for the pot.

  • Early morning people in Piazza San Marco, Venice, Italy. It is dawn in the Italian city on the sea and the wide expanse of Piazza Marco with the Basillica di San Marco on the far side and a man stands with legs apart to take his pictures of an empty square in the heart of Venice and where, in a few hours, the pavement will be crowded with humanity as the influx of tourists who, in their own way, flood the narrow streets and smaller canals with gondolas. The light is soft and the air cool on this midsummer morning during a heatwave - the best time to be here.

A mother and child with another person make their way across the bridge, muted colours from the green screen making a subdued landscape. • A prized green headed male Mallard during duck hunting on a hilltop south-east of Minot, North Dakota, United States.

  • In the morning rush-hour, a busy road junction is seen during a snow-shower as traffic builds up at traffic lights and pedestrians to and fro in Dulwich Village, Southwark, South London. Snowflakes can be picked out in car headlights as a lollypop man in fluorescent yellow holds his stop sign to waiting cars, eager to get on with their journeys across the capital during bad weather at the start of 2010, A Mini still has a thick layer of snow on its roof and bonnet (hood) and a number 37 bus to Putney Heath has passengers on its top deck, steamed up in the chilly temperature outside and the warm moisture inside. On the far right is a grey GATSO traffic camera that flashes those who jump red lights. For those struggling to reach work or school, this is another challenging commuting morning.

  • It is 07.45 on a dark, wintry morning and from behind, we follow a lone commuter who walks along a snow-covered path in Ruskin Park, an otherwise green space in the south London borough of Herne Hill, Lambeth. Street lights are still illuminating the road in the background and the blue light of early morning has fast becoming another day of snow showers and chilly temperatures. No grit or salt has been sprinkled on this slippery path and the person walks carefully carrying an umbrella from falling sleet which is soon to turn to rain as the temperature rises. Tall ash trees whose trunks form an avenue of cover and the commuter proceeds towards their neighbours to the station beyond. A single 4x4 car makes its way through this still quiet street with lights blazing.

  • Seen from the roof, we see an aerial perspective of an early morning swim for many south London locals as they bathe in the unheated pool of the Grade II listed Brockwell (Brixton) Lido in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill. The Lido is a magnet, an oasis, for city dwellers to escape, if only for an hour from the pressures of fast urban life. Many enjoy the benefits of outdoor bathing and the friendship of meeting old friends. In the centre, a mother helps her young daughter up from the cool morning water before another hot day in August. Brockwell Lido is a large, open air swimming pool in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, London. It opened in July 1937, closed in 1990 and after a local campaign was re-opened in 1994. Brockwell Lido was designed by HA Rowbotham and TL Smithson of the London County Council's Parks Department to replace Brockwell Park bathing pond.

  • Balloons float overhead during the mass lift-off by balloons at Bristols annual fiesta at Long Ashton, UK. Taking off into early morning summer skies above England's southwest City, the airships rise from the heat of hot air burners. Crowds from across the city arive with BBQs and picnics and children to sit and wait for the green smoke that signals a Go. Once airbourne, the balloons start to climb only a short distance, to land a few hundred metres away on this particular morning's stll air conditions. The 37th Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is billed as Europe’s largest (and free) ballooning event. Bristol's local ballooning entrepreneur hero is Don Cameron whose balloons are known worldwide.

  • The Monday morning following the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11th we see commuters disembarking from the Staten Island Ferry terminal in Manhattan. Bravely returning to office desks they find their city skyline missing the Twin Towers with Manhattan still in a state of perpetual shock and still under a mist of smoke from the debris at Ground Zero. To celebrate the return to commercial near-normality, New Yorkers' spirit was proved intact by the hanging of US flags from buildings. An American flag hangs over the workers walking along a exit gantry before emerging into the morning before another working day.

  • Reflected in a mirrored wardrobe door, a Catholic Priest puts on his Alb before morning Mass in the church's private dressing backroom called the Sacristy (also called the Vestry) at St. Lawrence's Catholic church in Feltham, London. Using morning summer light from the window of his private dressing room, the Father (the more formal term for a Catholic priest by his congregation) is about to put the Alb over his head. The Alb is the white linen vestment with close fitting sleeves, reaching nearly to the ground and secured round the waist by a girdle (cincture). He is already wearing his Amice, an oblong linen cloth (at least 32 inches long and 24 wide), which is first placed upon the head and then brought down and drawn about the neck where it is fastened with cords. Originally it served as a head-covering for the priest.

  • A lady sits outside in morning sunshine on the terrace of her B+B guesthouse in the Devon seaside town of Paignton. It is late morning and a lady has emerged from her bead and breakfast. Sunlight is quite high in the sky and the shadows of a vine that is growing across the roof of the building's terrace, is seen on the wall behind the woman. She is seated reading a magazine in a garden chair and is surrounded by colourful flowers in their prime. Well-painted original victorian railings that act as a sort of ballustrade are in front of the female. In the window is a scene of typical seaside Englishness. Serviettes are splayed out on a table along with breakfast or dinner items awaiting guests at the next meal.
