  • Yellow cones prevent parking in a London side-street. A low, wide angle of the road where the cones are spaced evenly to stop vehicles from parking in these spaces - possibly for nearby filming units. The places that usually allow city cars ample parking opportunities are now restricted and off-limits. The bright yellow cones are highly visible to the otherwise grey road surface.

  • A man adjusts his mp3 player with the hoarding of a travel business’s construction site showing a tropical beach paradise and images of world cities with a No Parking sign. A confusing and incongruous scene of the Urban and the Paradise are seen together on this London street as people emerge from their office and make calls or plays with mobile devices. The palm trees on the beach and the images of world cities such as Sydney, New York and Hong Kong make it a landscape of global travel, a shrinking world of intercontinental jet setting. Added to that is the temporary traffic sign telling Londoners not to park at this location between specific dates.

  • In light monsoonal rain, a lone pedestrian is seen from a high viewpoint, crossing a zebra crossing with a yellow grid box junction to his right in Central Hong Kong on the last day of British rule. The junction is empty and without any traffic but the word 'Look' is stencilled in white letters for the benefit of unwary pedestrians. An umbrella used by the unrecognisable person is a colour match with the painted striped road markings, identical to the British highway traffic code. The transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the Peoples Republic of China (PRC), often referred to as "The Handover" occurred at midnight on June 30, 1997, signifying the end of British rule, and the transfer of legal and financial authority back to China. Hong Kong was once known as 'fragrant harbour' (or Heung Keung) because of the smell of transported sandal wood.

  • Landscape on the perimeter of the Port of Ramsgate, a closed but once busy ferry terminal, on 8th January 2019, in Ramsgate, Kent, England. The Port of Ramsgate has been identified as a Brexit Port by the government of Prime Minister Theresa May, currently negotiating the UKs exit from the EU. Britains Department of Transport has awarded to an unproven shipping company, Seaborne Freight, to provide run roll-on roll-off ferry services to the road haulage industry between Ostend and the Kent port - in the event of more likely No Deal Brexit. In the EU referendum of 2016, people in Kent voted strongly in favour of leaving the European Union with 59% voting to leave and 41% to remain.

  • Beneath the giant, solid pillars of the Bank of England in the heart of London’s financial district – the ancient Square Mile – a man dressed in a traditional pinstripe suit has stopped to make a phone call or check for messages. Halting his journey along this street he has opted to stand in line with a traffic no waiting cone and also near double-yellow lines that restrict parking or stopping. Without the cone or lines this scene would otherwise be without colour - the columns of this financial institution and the pavement (sidewalk) are drab – so the welcome yellow gives this picture more interest. We only see the man from the rear view and so he remains anonymous, a small person set against the scale of a large-scale financial landscape.

  • BAE System Hawks of the Red Arrows, Britain's RAF aerobatic team and airfield signs landscape. Six Hawk jet aircraft of the elite team, taxi in after another training flight past warning boards that are appropriate for armed jet fighters at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus rather than aerobatic planes. From a low angle we see a wide landscape looking over the taxi-way markings that direct military airplanes. The Red Arrows aircraft are a deep red colour that stand out against the horizon in an identical line. It is a wide expanse of road surface, the yellow centre-lines are for the benefit of pilots who need guidance for parking areas after landing, or leaving towards the departing runway on the southern part of the Cypriot Mediterranean island. With the Red Arrows, the taxiing jets all peel off in unison to and from the parking area and these lines are vital for this technique.

Street lights are still illuminating the road in the background and the blue light of early morning has fast becoming another day of snow showers and chilly temperatures. No grit or salt has been sprinkled on this slippery path and the person walks carefully carrying an umbrella from falling sleet which is soon to turn to rain as the temperature rises. Tall ash trees whose trunks form an avenue of cover and the commuter proceeds towards their neighbours to the station beyond. • Speakers' Corner is an area where public speaking is allowed. The original and most noted is in the north-east corner of Hyde Park in London, England. Speakers there are allowed to speak as long as the police consider their speeches lawful. Contrary to popular belief, there is no immunity from the law, nor are any subjects forbidden, but in practice the police tend to be tolerant and therefore only intervene when they receive a complaint or if they hear profanity.

  • Dated October 2010 with less than two years before the London Olympiad commenced, we see a section of the outer fence to the Olympic Park. The brick wall marks the boundary of no access to land near River Lea in East London. Sharp barbs of security wall line the top, keeping out trespassers. Covered in graffiti, it describes more the outer limit of the the property secured by the Olympic Authority who purchased land from small industrial businesses and landowners, separating people from their own localities - all in the name of a three-week sporting event that few feel they would benefit from.

  • Making their way across a snow-swept road in Norwood, south London, an elderly couple tread warily as the snow turns to slush. It's a bleak, raw morning as the new snowfall has settled on this suburban street where cars are parked on icy kerbs. Wearing sensible hats and coats and non-slip boots the pensioners are vulnerable to icy black spots which may endanger their stability because old people are susceptible to falls and injury at these hazardous times. A very monochrome landscape, we see little colour. Instead it is a scene of jeopardy and of an uncaring society for its older generations.
