  • A Japanese buyer watches a male model walk the catwalk of couturier Margaret Howell's Fashion Week show rehearsal in the company's retail flagship and design studio at 34 Wigmore Street, Central London England. Making notes on his clipboard as he looks at the striding man, the audience has yet to arrive so we see a largely empty scene that usually serves as a shop. Howell is one of Britain's more understated of couture brands alongside more flamboyant personalities. Howell admits to being "inspired by the methods by which something is made .. enjoying the tactile quality of natural fabrics such as tweeds, linen and cotton in a relaxed, natural and lived in look."

  • Two ladies are seen gossiping about someone else in the caseta (marquee) during the Spring Feria in Seville, Spain. Holding on to their small aperitif glasses the two beautiful ladies are close together comparing notes and mischievously swapping opinions during the later afternoon before a whole evening's entertainment when they will party till dawn. They are both dressed in traditional red and white flamenco dresses with red and yellow scarves around their necks. It is a lively event that Seville holds annually in the vast fairground area on the far bank of the Guadalquivir River. The 'lots' are squeezed together along pathways allowing customers to thoroughly inspect their potential purchases' details. This is a wide-angle picture taken on the slant with the distant boxes curling around to the left. One man in blue who has opened the stiff-opening door, cranes his neck to look up into the ceiling of these solid cast-iron frames. The K-series kiosks were largely designed in 1936 by the iconic designer Giles Gilbert Scott.

  • "I love Lambeth because .." post-it notes express an affection for south Londoners' home borough, left on a country show noticeboard. Pink heart-shaped stickers tell the viewer how much they appreciate life in this inner-city region of the capital where crime is a major negative aspect of living here. Many reasons are written by children whose optimism seems untainted.

  • Taking notes from an air band receiving radio, plane spotters log aircraft serial numbers and other details in notebooks near their perimeter fence at London's Heathrow airport. A large man has a pair of binoculars and an old SLR film camera and leans against his Peugeot car's bonnet (hood) to record the obsessive facts about airliners that pass overhead as they approach the runways of West London. His fellow-aviation enthusiast checks the radio that transmits the voices of pilots and air traffic controllers. In Britain, plane spotters are regarded as eccentric and sad but not trespassers. Some have been accused of spying near foreign military airfields. Picture from the 'Plane Pictures' project, a celebration of aviation aesthetics and flying culture, 100 years after the Wright brothers first 12 seconds/120 feet powered flight at Kitty Hawk,1903.

  • An entire rank of Grenadier Guardsmen musicians are playing clarinets as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations, one event in a series to mark her 50th year on the throne. The soldiers have formed a marching band guard that is making its way along the Mall, that broad avenue from Buckingham Palace. Focus is on one guardsman whose bearskin is slightly higher than his of his comrades. Their music sheets are pinned on specially adapted stands on the ends on their instruments making the job of marching in absolutely straight, regimented lines the more easier. The Grenadier Guards (GREN GDS) is the most senior regiment of the Guards Division of the British Army, and, as such, is the most senior regiment of infantry. The Grenadier Guards celebrated its 350th anniversary in 2006.

  • Seen through the window of a generic central London restaurant, we see a family, possibly tourists, seated in full view of the street's passers-by, while ordering their dinners from a waiter. The man is standing over them, writing down a mother's orders while at the next row of seats, a man is also telling his own waiter what his dinner will be. An Open sign has been placed to attract more trade into this business, a favourite among tourists visiting Theatreland in the capital's West End. It is early evening and the background street is dark with other businesses illuminated. Other couples and customers are also sitting at tables waiting for their food to arrive and in the foreground, a young man sips a glass of Coke from a straw.

He has been playing for only three months and can already play a variety of chords and even recite the theme of the film, Titanic. The Theban Mapping Project's goal is to enable local people to have a place where they can read and learn as state schools are under-resourced, lacking basic teaching aides such as books or musical instruments. The organisation is run by American Egyptologist Dr Kent Weeks who is committed to the original goal of accurately documenting the archaeological heritage of Thebes. • A detailed view of a musician's hand delicately plucking the strings of his double bass. Our attention is on the architecture and parts of the bass: Its f-hole, the fingerboard, strings and bridge. The double bass, also called the string bass, upright bass, bass violin or contrabass, is the largest and lowest-pitched bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra. The double bass is a standard member of the string section of the symphony orchestra and smaller string ensembles in Western classical music. In addition, it is used in other genres such as jazz, 1950s-style blues and rock and rockabilly, traditional country music, bluegrass, tango and many types of folk music. The double bass is typically constructed from several types of wood, including maple for the back, spruce for the top, and ebony for the fingerboard.
