As part of the outreach programme they cover 32 primary schools and 5 secondary schools in the region as well as many communities. The main Bwindi Community Hospital is in Buhoma village on the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Western Uganda. It serves around 60,000 people from the surrounding area.

  • A young deer lies dead beside a busy highway on a road near Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, Washington State. Very recently run-over but seemingly unharmed, this animal has head injuries and died immediately from a collision with a passing vehicle, such as this heavy articulated lorry which blurrs past this location. This is forested area and the deer's natural habitat but too often wildlife in its natural surroundings violently meets the modern human environment and the animal comes of worst. As a result of the death, the roadkill was taken by members of a US Air Force survival course at their nearby facility and so it formed an unscheduled extra lesson in preparing venison for the pot that night (see Corbis image entitled 'US Air Force survival instructors with recent roadkill').

After clubbing it death, fishermen from the Maldives have removed its respiratory organs with sharp knives and washes it down with a hose. Next it will be plunged into ice containers to cool the flesh, reducing the risk of self-deteriorating flushed blood which renders it unfit for consumption under EU law (its live internal core temperature is 40 degrees centigrade). When as many fish have been caught (often weighing 50kg) before dark using hand and line method, rather than nets, the boat presses on to the processing factory at Himmafushi where they're filleted and boxed for export to Europe and in particular, for UK supermarkets like Sainsbury's.

English Falmouth Estuary oysters have become highly sought-after around European restaurants and we see a freshly-caught specimen still in its shell after being landed from a traditional Falmouth antique working sail boat (fishing without mechanical power is a rule on this local fishery) that still dredge harvested oysters from the river bed using traditional methods unchanged since Victorian times. The fisherman's muddy fingers can be seen lifting (or shuck) the crustacean slightly from the shell with an old oyster knife to display this wild, native Fal oyster which is known for its distinctive sweet, fresh and delicate flavour.

Near their facility at Fairchild AFB, Spokane, Washington State, the man teaches escape and evasion techniques to visiting air crew whose flying careers depend on passing this rigorous week of survival instruction. Should they be downed in hostile territory for example, they will need every skill learned here to survive possibly weeks being hunted in the wilderness so trapping and preparing fresh meat for human consumption is important for survival. Here the teachers stand around the venison that is strung up on a branch, its intestines and organs already removed by a hunting knife.

Covered with a chocolate topping, she sinks her mouth into its pastry and somehow manages not to let the cream ooze out over her clothes. Holding a serviette to catch drips, she looks elsewhere as behind, others stand or lean against the solid concrete sea defence wall at Scarborough, North Yorskhire.

  • A long-distance lorry is parked at the Sainsbury's 700,000 sq ft (57,500sq m) supermarket warehouse and distribution depot at Waltham Point London England. With round wheels echoing the circles of oranges, long-distance vehicles depart every two minutes, 24 hours a day, 364 days a year to 80 UK stores and handling 2.5m supermarket cases a week. Transporting refrigerated perishable foodstuffs, these lorries are ever-present on the nation's motorways and A-roads, plying back and forth to re-supply the supermarkets. Food orders are conveyed with sorter systems that group products together, ordering them to favour the layout of specific stores, optimising how the shelves are stacked.

The lady serving him works in an outside mobile burger bar that stands at this popular spot for working men as they pass-by this industrial corridor on the River Thames. Meanwhile, the serving woman's friend sits sunning himself and scratching his head beneath a film poster for the British comedy 'Run Fat Boy, Run' with actor Simon Pegg. Further in the distance, the English Cross of St George flutters and a line of electricity pylons take a transmission cables into central London, taking power into the capital. This south Essex town in the Thames Gateway, is the location for dramatic increases of new housing developments.
