  • A multi-ethnic crowd enjoys a heatwave in the Herne Hill lido, south London, England. The water is blue and the skin is either white, sunburned pink or black afro-Carribean. The laughter is genuine with these Londoners relishing this local open-air mecca for healthy sun worship. This lido was opened in July 1937, closed in 1990 and after a local campaign was re-opened in 1994. • Two children walk along a path between two dry stone walls in the countryside around the Yorkshire town of Settle. Striding between the boundaries of agricultural grazing land, whose trees and undergrowth has been cleared, the kids have come from a distant farmhouse which has recently lost its stock of sheep due to Foot and Mouth disease. Dry stone walls serve as boundaries and enclosures for farmers and land owners. Built by tradesmen called Wallers, a dying tradition and skill, they're constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together. The stones must be carefully selected by shape to ensure that they have a large contact surface area with their neighbours and so do not slip. They are a legacy of the movement towards enclosure of common farming and grazing land as English society moved away from medieval feudalism. Model released.

These walls were built by tradesmen called Wallers, a dying tradition and skill. Dry stone walls are constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together. • On a wooden boardwalk that stretches across a sandy beach landscape, a young girl runs at full speed away from her mother and younger brother who walk along this walkway on the beach at Calais, France. It is low-tide, hazy winter sunshine makes soft shadows on the sand but there are few people out in the cold beyond except for a family in the surf approximately 200 yards away in the distance. Half-way back to the shore is a lone lifebelt attached to its pole in case of emergency. This near-deserted beach is an idyllic and tranquil place, allowing children to let off steam. Ffrom a personal documentary project entitled "Next of Kin" about the photographer's two children's early years spent in parallel universes. Model released.

  • With a look of delight on her face, a four year-old girl stamps through fallen snow in a field near her home in Bielefeld, Germany. Wearing a vibrant red bobble hat and matching coat, she smiles towards the viewer with the pleasure of any child enjoying the excitement of fresh snow. Ski or sledge tracks can be seen at her feet but she is the only person in this empty landscape, as if she's walking on her own through the snowy hills. It is the winter of 1967 and the reds are very vibrant and dominant from the Kodachrome film used which also has a wonderful muted blue colour cast in the mid-tones giving the picture a chilly, wintry feel reminiscent of the classic days of early photography when shifts in color gave a faded and dated look.

  • Pilot of the Red Arrows, Britain's RAF aerobatic team relaxes in hotel after their Bastille Day flypast over Paris. After arriving back on the ground and their Paris hotel, the British officer and his team has ended France's Bastille Day parade. They were chosen by the French authorities to close the fly-pasts. British armed forces paraded in the historic parade for the first time. Under blue skies on a perfect summer day, the squadron lined up in their classic fly-past 'V-shape' called 'Big Battle', following the straight line of the Champs Elysees then eastwards over the Parisian suburbs. Personnel from four British military units were present and French Air Force jets performed their own fly-past to open the parade, while the British Hawk jets of the Red Arrows had the honour of completing it.

  • A woman in her late 20s crouches down to paint the bare wood of a window frame in a Victorian terraced home. Wearing blue work overalls and brandishing a narrow width paint brush with white wood primer on its hairs, the lady works away in a rear room of this house that overlooks similar aged properties in south London, England. The sash-style window is up and open so that fresh air helps dry this coat of paint. Furniture has been cleared from the room - a back of the house upstairs bathroom.

  • A mid-morning mist sweeps across the seafront's South Beach at Scarborough, the seaside town in North Yorkshire. Kids run about on the wet sand, some leaping and some just carrying buckets of salt water for sandcastles elsewhere. With the freedom and open-space, children who perhaps live in bleak industrial towns in northern England can enjoy the fresh-air on this north-eastern coast. Their reflections are also seen on the shiny sand and although it appears to be as grim as their home may be, it is in fact a warm day but the daily sea fogs that roll across this beach, a microclimate exists and is unique to this area.

Entrants are handsome males and girls showing their muscles and well-trimmed bodies. The others have hairy chests, pectorals and biceps on-show by these young exhibitionists who parade themselves in the open-air. But this young man is smooth and sell-muscled and he holds up both arms to show his biceps and abdominals (abs) plus, unintentionally (possibly) his well-endowed private parts that are poking from within his Y-front underwear pants.

  • A spread of old Polish Zloty bank notes are spread out in the hands of a private market trader in Central Warsaw. His arms appear from the bottom left of frame and we can see a dozen or so notes of 2000 and 5000 and other denominations in an arc, held together with both thumbs. In the back ground and out of focus is the hustle and bustle of a summer's day at this market at a football stadium where Polish citizens come to sell and buy their possessions in the hope of making a little money to support meagre incomes. Women are inspecting clothing and materials on a stall in the open-air, under a bright sun. On the front-facing note is the medieval ruler Mieszko I though these notes were phased out in 1995 when hyperinflation forced, the currency to undergo redenomination.

We see hairy chests, pectorals and biceps on-show by these young exhibitionists who parade themselves in the open-air. Slightly behind them there are also two elderly ladies looking like sisters or perhaps twins. They were once beautiful themselves and sit eagerly on a bench against a wall peering at the handsome young men, wishing they were young again. One holds a walking stick and the other grasps a bottle of wine. It is a scene of young and old, of youth and ageing beauty.
