  • Hours before it was removed by the Canal and River Trust, the statue of merchant slave owner, Robert Milligan stands partially covered by Black Lives Matter activists outside the Museum of Londons Docklands Museum on the former quay of West India Docks, on 9th June 2020, in London, United Kingdom. Scottish merchant Robert Milligan 1746 - 1809 grew up on his familys sugar plantation in Jamaica and by the time of his death, owned 526 slaves of his own. Because of the theft of his sugar and rum cargoes from the docks of the day, he and other busnessmen built the massive West India Docks trade hub, him becoming Deputy Chairman of the West India Dock Company. In the aftermath of the George Floyd protests in the US and UK Black Lives Matter groups, who are calling for the removal of statues and street names with links to the slave trade, Milligans and other statues of British slavery owners and profiteers, have become a focus of impassioned protest.

They spend most of their time high in the forest canopy, about 40-50 feet above the ground. Iguanas are diurnal, awake during the day. They are also cold-blooded, so they do not produce their own body heat, so need warm temperatures to thrive. Many people in the United States and elsewhere want a green iguana for a pet, so there is a big demand for their capture.

  • A Christian crucifix stands encased in a wooden box that has been attached to a panelled wall in Quebec, Canada. The image is white except for the Jesus icon itself and coloured lights which glow on this dark afternoon in the depths of Winter. The religious shrine consists of the human effigy standing a plinth next to faded dried flowers. On the left side are six wheel hubs also fixed to a wire fence that borders this person's property. Their decorative design suggests the Canadian owner likes driving sports or utility vehicles but who is also a worshipper of the Christian faith and believer in idols. Canada's 2001 Census showed, 72% of the Canadian population listed Roman Catholicism or Protestantism as their religion. The Roman Catholic Church in Canada is by far the country's largest single denomination.

  • A pet poodle looks towards us in the same way that an RSPCA charity box model spaniel does outside a seaside shop tourist. The shop is selling seaside resort holiday tourist trinkets – a postcard rack has been carefully placed in the middle of the pavement (sidewalk) as holidaymakers pass-by to browse the cheap mementoes. The owner of the poodle has stopped to choose some cards for those at home and allows his dog a little slack on the lead. The dog cranes its neck towards the viewer, matching the posture and stance of the model charity spaniel whose cast sits, posing in a sorrowful and empathy-making show of need, suffering and want – enough perhaps to encourage people to give to this charity, the RSPCA (the Royal Society for the Protection of Animals).

There are around 5,000 working guide dogs in the UK today, though the Guide Dogs charity cares for around 8,000 dogs, including breeding stock, puppies, dogs in training and retired dogs. Before the young dog is allowed out into the real streets outside it must prove its natural ability to take its unsighted owner safely along a series of obstructive objects.

The family members huddle for this portrait, half in sunlight and others lit by the light from a lightbulb that lights the dark room behind. A grandmother, a mother and young girls look out from their home to the street outside. Lisbon's Bica district is a steep gradient area of narrow streets more peaceful and atmospheric than other busier locations where cars and trams make wider roads noisier. Flights of steps dissect the quarter which remains largely unspoilt.
