  • Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming, at the northern entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The main attraction at Mammoth Hot Springs is the terraces. Heat, water, limestone, and rock fracture combine to create the them. Travertine is deposited as white rock. The Mammoth Hot springs are constantly changing. As formations grow, water is forced to flow in different directions. The constant changes in water and mineral deposits create a living sculpture. Mammoth Hot Springs is divided into two sections, the lower terraces, and the Upper terrace Loop

  • In a rear alleyway between poor terraced housing in Liverpool, England, we see many black bin-bags are left against industrial brick walls awaiting collection during the Merseyside dustmans' strike of 1991. The cobbled alley of these 'back to back' houses are in a poor area, south of the city centre and home to deprived families. The industrial action against the local authority was a health problem for Liverpool during the summer of '91 when streets filled with rubbish. Vermin like rats ran around and public city parks filled with every kind of refuse and garbage. Few of these back-to-backs now exist after being cleared to allow construction of high-rise tower-blocks and flats.

  • Having packed nearly all their possessions into a removal company's truck, a family have left this terraced house apart from a telephone that sits on the carpet in the middle of the carpet, on a ground floor home in Herne Hill, South London England UK. The family have taken the precaution of using a professional removal company, rather than trying to move themselves, and we see a yellow storage van parked outside in the street ready to drive the house's contents to the new property. This family home is now empty awaiting its new occupants who will soon arrive with their own items.

  • As a cyclist pedals his way along a path, a man enjoys late afternoon sunshine in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, London England. Seen from a central hill in this Victorian-designed open space, there are the terraced housing and larger tenement buildings behind that rise above the tree line in this undulating landscape. The person on the bicycle has been caught between two tree trunks as he approaches the man relaxing on the park bench and another pedestrian is seen further in the distance walking near a red car. It is scene of serenity among the urban sprawl of a capital city, where quiet places are precious and idyllic corners of greenery are highly-sought after. The Brockwell Hall Park Estate was created and landscaped in 1811. It was purchased for the people of Lambeth & Southwark and opened as a public park in 1892 by Lord Rosebery.

  • Looking across south London towards Edwardian homes and block of flats in the darkness of the suburbs. It is late one evening in central London, in a suburb known as Herne Hill, SE24 in the borough of Lambeth. We see across the metropolis from quiet and expensive period homes, whose owners would typically be white middle-class, across to the blocks of flats (apartments) in the Loughborough Estate, a far rougher location for street gangs and high crime rates. Owners' cars are parked under streetlights and ash trees and lights shine out from living rooms and bedrooms.

  • Victorian homes beneath tall 100 year-old ash trees on a misty evening. The freezing fog thickens over the residential homes, a south London suburb bordering a local park edged with 100 year-old ash trees. • Looking up towards majestically tall Ash trees and blue skies, the sun glints off a window pane in an Edwardian age semi-detached house on Ruskin Park, Denmark Hill, SE24 (its post code) South London England. It is a beauitiful winter afternoon in this inner-city suburban district of Britain's capital, approximately 5 miles south from the River Thames. A couple are walking their dogs past an elegant line of period homes that were completed in 1908, the age of innovative building in the new 20th Century. The properties overlook the borough park named after John Ruskin, the renowned artist and commentator who lived in nearby Herne Hill. It looks an affluent area, a prosperous location to invest in a mortgage in uncertain times with market prices falling during the credit crunch and recession.

  • By a Neo-baroque ornamental pillar and vase, a Hungarian couple are seated on beach chairs, not at the seaside but in Budapest's famous Széchenyi thermal bath. Having bathed in thermal waters that are piped through this health resort in the middle of the capital city, the man and woman wear swimming costumes in the warm summer morning where hundreds flock to. Budapest is especially known for its spas just as Germany is. The Széchenyi Medicinal Bath (Széchenyi-gyógyfürdő) is the largest medicinal bath in Europe. Its water is supplied by two thermal springs, their temperature is 74°C/165°F and 77°C/171°F, respectively. The bath can be found in the City Park, and was built in 1913 in Neo-baroque style to the design of Győző Czigler.

  • With a giant Volkswagen (VW) poster of their Lupo car in the foreground, we are viewing an aerial view of Via dei Condotti, the pedestrian street that runs west from the Spanish steps in the Italian capital, Rome. Written in the Italian language, the banner says the word Astemia which in English translates teetotaller, implying the vehicle is clean and non-polluting - in other words, zero emissions. This high viewpoint is taken from the top of the famous landmark where the height and perspective allows us to see down the street where shoppers to and fro amid the occasional vehicle crosses or is parked to make deliveries. On the corner of the poster building are balconies, terraces and the shuttered windows of apartments.
