  • Commuters to-and-fro in the heat of a city summer during a 3-day underground tube strike in September 2007. This is Victoria mainline station during a summer heatwave. It's a transport hub for tube lines, buses and overground train routes and we see masses of pedestrians and buses reflected in the glass of a bush shelter window. As a result of the industrial action, the buses are full so the quickest way of reaching one's destination is to walk. An official points out directions, someone shields his eyes from the sun, a lady walks with her hands in pockets, the 239 bus to Victoria approaches and sightseeing tours sign advertises tickets. People are seen in differing scales and sizes.

  • With smartphone in hand, a woman walks beneath a poster for the Charles Tyrwhitt menswear outfitters in Eldon Street in the City of London, the capital's heart of its financial district - and a good location for suits and businesswear. A pair of Englishmen raise their bowler hats in a gesture from a previous era, a bygone gentlemanly tradition. when hats said much of your social standing, a summary of your position in the class system. In the 21st century though, the hat is largely an item of clothing to wear only for extreme cold or heat.

A leggy girl strides past the shop frontage, seemingly curious of this bygone gentlemanly tradition.

  • A lunchtime jogger accidentally collides with a young male pedestrian in a narrow City of London street. In a narrow part of a street called Wallbrook (the route of the ancient River Wallbrook that still flows underground here) office workers and those exercising enter a pinch-point where construction works narrow the pavement width. Running through here is inevitably going to force people to have their personal space compromised. The collision is brief and good natured as sorrys and excuse mes are uttered.

  • A young woman begs on London Bridge, sitting on the pavement to read her newspaper as a cleaning contractor sucks up litter around her. The girl doesn't move from her place on the pavement at the northern end of the crossing across the Thames, a busy thoroughfare taking commuters to the southern side mainline station - and a favoured spot for beggars asking for loose change. She reads the latest edition of the Evening Standard, London's free tabloid newspaper. Passing her is the workman who points his large vacuum tube that removes street rubbish.

  • Three young men are seen from a very low angle as they make arrangements with other friends to meet at the Spring Feria in Seville, Spain. Beneath dozens of colourful lights which hang from cables above their heads, two stand holding drinks while the third speaks into his mobile phone. They are all impeccably dressed in smart jackets and tasteful ties with one owning a carnation in his lapel. It is a lively event that Seville holds annually in the vast fairground area on the far bank of the Guadalquivir River. Rows of temporary marquee tents, or casetas, host families, corporations and friends into the late hours during the April Fair which begins begins two weeks after the Semana Santa, or Easter Holy Week in the Andalusian capital.

  • Two tourists reading a street map, refuse the chance to buy a helium balloon from a street vendor near the Tower of London. A man selling a huge bundle of tacky balloons with faces of cartoon characters: jumbo elephants; rabbits; clowns and parrots are clearly not of interest to the visitors who have instead, come to the Tower of London for a dose of history and culture. The woman looks shocked and embarrassed while it is the male of the couple who puts up a hand of objection, saying absolutely no to this offer of tat and rubbish.

Robinson was interested in politics from a young age, and went on to study a Philosophy, Politics, and Economics degree at Oxford University, where he was also President of the Oxford University Conservative Association. Starting out in broadcasting at Piccadilly Radio, he worked his way up as a producer eventually becoming deputy editor of Panorama, the world's longest-running current affairs programme, before becoming a political correspondent in 1996. He became the BBC's chief political correspondent in 1999, and between 2002 and 2005 he worked for ITV News as political editor, but then returned to the BBC assuming the same role, which he has held since. His history of Conservative affiliation has been controversial, particularly when allegations of bias were made during his coverage of the 2010 United Kingdom general election. He has presented a variety of programmes, including Westminster Live, Weekend Breakfast and Late Night Live on BBC Radio 5 Live, and Newsnight.
