  • Wearing a safety helmet and t-shirt , a nine year-old girl cyclist pretends to be asleep, having has collapsed on the grass at Peckham Rye Park in South London after a marathon ride into the centre of London. 'Freewheel' was a Hovis-sponsored event for riders and families to enjoy a day of traffic-free cycling through the capital's streets and this girl has ridden 18 miles on this late-summer Sunday - starting and finishing in this park. The shadow of a rear bicycle wheel can be seen to her right and she feigns death by spreading out on the grass, pretending to sleep before reviving herself with a drink and pedalling on home, yet another mile away.

  • As afternoon light fades, we see an incongruous landscape of false forest trees amid an industrial airport lot. A supporting pillar from the hotel chain, Sofitel, a 605 bedroom, 27 suite and 45 meeting room accommodation and business hub, is situated at the Heathrow Airport 's Terminal 5 hotel. The woodland screen is hiding a wasteland of undeveloped land that may soon be another airport hotel but at the moment, it makes for a strange rural/urban scene where the viewer is not sure where reality stops and fiction takes over. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009). .

  • An actor plays the part of an office worker, toiling away at a desk-top PC while outside in the courtyard of the Z33 art gallery in Hasselt, Limburg Belgium. The lady artist sits typing at an imaginary work station with jackets hanging on a coat stand and with her area marked out in sand on the gravel. This incongruous scene is played out during the gallery's 'Werk Nu' (Work Now) exhibition that reflected upon the concept and meaning of ‘work’ in our present society, with issues such as flexibility, mobility, motivation, significance, and the work-life balance are dealt with. The art works in ‘Work Now’ are direct or ambiguous, whimsical.

  • London 8/1/13: A man dressed as a NASA moon walking astronaut walks along Oxford Street outside the Selfridges department store in central London. Shoppers and passers-by seem oblivious to this symbol of 20th century American technology, now reduced to a PR stunt for the Lynx aftershave brand hosted by Selfridges. Selfridges, also known as Selfridges & Co, is a chain of high end department stores in the United Kingdom. It was founded by Harry Gordon Selfridge. • Re-enactment soldiers at Housesteads Fort on Roman Hadrian's Wall, once the northern frontier of Rome's empire. Hadrian's Wall (Latin: Vallum Aelium) was a stone and timber fortification built by the Roman Empire across the width of what is now northern England. Begun in AD 122, during the rule of emperor Hadrian, it was built as a military fortification though gates through the wall served as customs posts to allow trade and levy taxation. The 4.5m high Wall was 80 Roman miles (73.5 miles, 117km) long and so important was it to secure its length that up to 10% of the Roman army total force were stationed here. Tough walkers generally take 7 days to trek its coast-to-coast length. These Roman soldier enthusiasts have dressed up for a Roman day.

  • At first glance, we see an angry male holding the severed head of another man in his right hand. But this is a circus act from the Archaos troupe, a french company of oerformers who tour the world with their anarchic version of big top entertainment. With a dark background and with the apparent murderer wearing black, it is an image of raw, homocidal thuggery: A massacre and attack on another human being. Despite it being a pretence, an act for the sake of an audience with a thirst for the macabre, it is still very disturbing.

  • Sheriff Woody Pride, aka Woody, the cowboy character from the Pixar/Disney CGI fantasy film Toy Story, lies forgotten outside a south London charity shop. Facing the viewer, we see the happy features of this famous movie character - whose on-screen narrative is that of a forgotten toy, now unwanted by his growing-up boy owner. As art becomes reality, Woody has been left on the pavement after being dumped by his previous family. A common problem is that charity donors leave unwanted things outside in the street, for others to come and rifle through, leaving a mess that's difficult for volunteers to clean up.

  • White plaster or cement Goddess statuettes stand on sale on the forecourt of a garden art business in an Athens suberb, Marathonas Avenue - the original Marathon route of 490 BC. The mostly female figurines are in various poses but are all nudes and are in various gestures of a classical heroic style. Those in the foreground have their arms at the heads and moulded breasts and bodies to show the perfect female form while further to the back are male Gods placed on plinths and in recesses. The 29th modern Olympic circus came home to Greece in 2004 and the birthplace of athletics and the Olympic ideal, amid the woodland of ancient Olympia where for 1,100 continuous years, the ancients held their pagan festival of sport and debauchery.

  • Fake classical Greek statues stand outside a night club in Nafplio, a former Byzantines, Frank, Venetian, and Ottoman coastal Peloponnese port town of 14,000 on the Argolic Gulf. The walls of this modern building seen near wasteland on the outskirts of town are made to look authentic but result in a false tourist style. There are three pieces of fake art that stand on well-watered grass: One of a nude Greek Goddess, a miniature lion in the middle and nearest the viewer is a naked figure of a man - muscular and classically posed as a heroic and mythical figure. Nafplio was also the first capital of independent Greece which was destroyed in the 7th Century for its alliance with Sparta. This contemporary landscape is therefore bears no resemblance to its heritage.

  • Actors in US and Soviet army uniforms hold flags to recount German history during the second world war and later, the cold war - beneath the Brandenburg Gate in Unter den Linden in central Berlin, Germany. The site is near the former border between Communist East and West Berlin during the Cold War. Here also, Berlin was separated by the occupying sectors of US, British, French and Soviet forces after WW2. The Berlin Wall was a barrier constructed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) starting on 13 August 1961, that completely cut off (by land) West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin. The Eastern Bloc claimed that the wall was erected to protect its population from fascist elements conspiring to prevent the "will of the people" in building a socialist state in East Germany.

  • While visiting London's tourist sites, a young boy of about 5 years-old spends time at Horse Guards where a soldier from the Household Cavalry, also dressed in a deep red coat, stands motionless and at-ease. It is a bright day and the gray stonework amplifies the scarlett uniform tunics as the boy has his picture taken by family. The British Household Cavalry is classed as a corps in its own right, and consists of two regiments: Life Guards (British Army) and the Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons). They are the senior regular regiments in the British Army, with traditions dating from 1660.

The Eastern Bloc claimed that the wall was erected to protect its population from fascist elements conspiring to prevent the "will of the people" in building a socialist state in East Germany. • We are looking down from above to office and business workers who are lying down and relaxing in the grass in their lunch break at Finsbury Circus, a circular green park space in the heart of London's financial district, the City of London. Surrounding them is an art instillation of steel sheep that are incongruously grazing among the assorted people, much like they once did when London was a home to livestock en-route to market and other animals used for transport. It is a warm afternoon and in the foreground, a man wearing a dark suit has taken off his polished shoes and is lying his head on his jacket in the warm afternoon, loosening his tight tie and stretching his neck. Elsewhere, a lady is sitting eating a packed lunch with the Sun newspaper and a man a little further behind is in jeans and plimsoll shoes. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000. The City of London is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City as it is known, is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area. London Bridge's history stretches back to the first crossing over Roman Londinium, close to this site and subsequent wooden and stone bridges have helped modern London become a financial success.
