  • Life is too short to be wasted on the pursuit of happiness, a piece of poetic street art graffiti in the canal underpass at Gravelly Hill Interchange, aka Spaghetti Junction which is virtually deserted under Coronavirus lockdown, while far fewer vehicles pass overhead on 29th April 2020 in Birmingham, England, United Kingdom. The term Spaghetti Junction was originally used to refer to Gravelly Hill Interchange on the M6 motorway in an article published in the Birmingham Evening Mail on 1 June 1965 the journalist Roy Smith described plans for the junction as like a cross between a plate of spaghetti and an unsuccessful attempt at a Staffordshire knot. Coronavirus or Covid-19 is a new respiratory illness that has not previously been seen in humans. While much or Europe has been placed into lockdown, the UK government has put in place more stringent rules as part of their long term strategy, and in particular social distancing.

  • Three silhouetted walkers (two women and one male) near the top of a hill near the village of Churchill, North Somerset, England. The image has only three tones, graduating from dark at the bottom, becoming lighter to the top. It is late in the day and the light is soft and warm in colour and the friends make their way up the gradient in single-file, each striding with legs apart as they climb the hill forming part of the Mendips. It is a scene of tranquillity, the landscape is peaceful and unspoilt for outdoor countryside pursuits like walking, one of the fastest-growing leisure activities in Britain for people who take advantage of rural England.

  • An aerial view looking down from a highpoint, on to the shallows and surf of waters near Lynton, Devon, England. Windsurfers traverse the windy seascape on a spring day on this south-western coast, one of England's warmest regions. Here, young surfers and ocean adventurers travel to these parts where the beaches are level and where the waves arrive at the coast in perfectly-formed breakers. In the picture, one surfer has fallen from their board, the sail now horizontal in the water. But the others are upright and travelling across the wind, expertly riding the waves.

  • Awkwardly, carrying their giant rubber rings by wrapping their left hands over the top curves, three kids make their way tentatively down a ramp of concrete to a poolside ride called River Run. There are two yellow rings and one red, alternatively manhandled along the path which is already wet from other holidaymakers in this northern seaside resort of Scarborough, North Yorkshire. We do not see the childrens' faces or upper-bodies and are therefore anonymous. A sign for the ride lists a series of rules for safe enjoyment of this leisure pursuit which they are urged to obey.

  • A walker admires the view across the escarpment of Tennyson Downs on the Isle-of-Wight. Looking over his shoulder into the distance, the walker is alone on his solo pursuit along some of Britain's most beautiful coastlines, here on the south coast. The rolling downland stretches westwards - its white chalk cliffs famous for symbolising England's southern limits. Tennyson Down is a hill at the west end of the Isle of Wight just south of Totland. Tennyson Down is a grassy, whale-backed ridge of chalk which rises to 482 ft/147m above sea level. Tennyson Down is named after the poet Lord Tennyson who lived at nearby Farringford House for nearly 40 years. The poet used to walk on the down almost every day, saying that the air was worth 'sixpence a pint'.

A recent survey by domestic media have shown that over 75% of white collar workers are having the thought of leaving major commercial cities such as Shanghai and Beijing; as high cost of living, especially that of housing, have wiped out gains in income and stress of daily life are increasingly hindering their pursuit of happiness.

  • A Polish man leans over to put the finishing touches to two small snowmen that now occupy a park bench on Goose Green in East Dulwich, Southwark, South London, England. This otherwise green space has seen snow falls that have gripped this part of the capital with unsalted road surfaces and commuting nightmares. But this young man is having fun with his diminutive snowy creations who have been dressed up in his and a friend's glasses, their scarves and gloves and with locally-found twigs. The park is relatively quiet with only a hint of the chaos elsewhere but the time spent on pointless pursuits is one way of enjoying adverse weather, rather than the more serious business of getting to work, proving also that snow brings out the childish nature in us all.
