  • We see three friends close-up enjoying a festive party at Hamiltons pub in the City of London only a week before Christmas. It is a busy evening in the public house which is located near Liverpool Street mainline Station and they are in a humerous spirit just having fired off party streamers that have stuck to their clothes and faces. Two are wearing red and white santa claus hats but are stil in their work clothes. One is about to drink some of his pint of beer from a long, straight glass. The three look comical because of the streamers draped over their bodies and they are laughing and giggling at a joke that one has cracked. In the background a man is looking quizzically at the decorations. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000. The City of London is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City as it is known, is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area. London Bridge's history stretches back to the first crossing over Roman Londinium, close to this site and subsequent wooden and stone bridges have helped modern London become a financial success.

  • An athletic man poses against a wall on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, Florida. This fine specimen of a man wears roller-blades and trousers tucked into his skates with a yellow t-shirt with the word Frequency across his pectoral muscles. His shdow appears across the wall and because of the angle, his shape has been greatly exaggerated, his body becoming a much wider, stockier proportion than the reality. He stands with an arm resting high on the wall and the other on his hip, almost in a feminine manner. He is nonetheless the epitome of maleness, of virility with the healthy physique that women adore and other men are jealous of! The sdidewalk pavement arcs around a corner and the wall with its long shadow is a strong diagonal line across the picture, disappearing to the far right.

  • Amid the hectic arrivals concourse of Heathrow airport's Terminal 5, a young couple hold on to each other tight after a few weeks separation when the girl took a family holiday away from her boyfriend who needed to work here in London. They have clearly missed each other after such a short break from each other but are otherwise oblivious to the crowds that surround them in this busy international airport. They embrace with genuine affection for each other in a display of sexual freedom that is otherwise seen as a taboo in other countries. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009).

  • Mothers and sons hug emotionally in the international arrivals hall of Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 airport. Three families have gathered to meet their respective sons who have been travelling around the world during their university gap year sabbatical trip of a lifetime. With balloons and banners amid the hectic concourse where other relatives greet their loved-ones after months away from home on their adventures. This is a tradition practised across the world's airports where families are separated by the need to travel or work in other countries and the emotion of meeting again after long absences is always hard. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009).

  • Two toilet rolls are ready for use in a Paris hotel room toilet. Folded into triangular, pointed ends that point down to the bathroom floor in a famliar manner known to businessmen and and tourists during overnight stays in these anonymous and generic rest-stops frequented by travellers. Mounted onto a brown wall, the twin toilet roll holders are fixed side by side and have a shiny chrome finish.

  • A lone bather wallows lazily in the calm pool waters at the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat (formerly the Bel Air Hotel), Alpes Maritimes, France. Basking on his back, the man lies with arms outstretched, the warm buoyant water making him weightless. he has found inner-peace and there is restful tranquility here, where surface-tension allows the bather to unwind completely in this idyllic place on the French Cote d'Azur riviera. Behind his head unoccupied sun loungers are facing the Mediterranean Sea, its clear horizon empty except for a lone yacht that sails along the ocean coast. The colour of both sea and pool are the same on this overcast day that allows us to experience a more muted tone to the scene, also allowing us to see the contiunation of natural waters, as if they run from one to the other.

The museum was established in 2003 by the merging of the two separate museums that had occupied the same building since 1959. The building was completed in 1959 as one of the Ten Great Buildings celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. • Bas-relief stone carvings of elephants at one of the galleries in Angkor Wat. The trunk of the carving has become shined from the touch of millions of hands. This jewel in the crown of Angkor's ancient temples is a vision of beauty, might and Khmer architectural excellence. The five towers dominate the view, which you are led to trough outer walls, along causeways over the moat and past the two giant pools which act as a mirror of the vision. Consecrated at around 1150 to the Hindu god, Vishnu it is suggested that construction took 30 years.

  • A detail of ancient archaeology in the British Museum: An Assyrian formal scene, of about 865-860 BC from the ancient city of Nimrud. In one scene the king appears as conqueror with bow and arrows, flanked by guman attendants but here, we see a detail of a hand holding a purse-like bag, the arm adorned with jewellery on the wrist. Neo-Aramaic writing can be seen at the bottom of this scene depicting royal life. Assyrian kings competed to outdo each other with carved reliefs on interior walls. This tradition began with King Ashurnasirpal II (reigned 883-859BC) at Nimrud. Nimrud is the later Arab name for the ancient Assyrian city originally known as Kalhu, located 30 kilometres (20 mi) south of the city of Mosul, and 5 kilometres (3 mi) south of the village of Selamiyah in the Nineveh plains in northern Mesopotamia.
