  • Rabbi Gluck searching for homets at the beginning of Passover. After the house is cleaned from top to bottom the children in the house hide 10 parcels of homets (bread crumbs) for the man of the house to find. The tools used to search for homets are a feather to brush up the homets, a spoon to collect them and a candle to search with. A prayer is read while carrying this out. When all the homets are collected they are burnt with everything else in the house that contains yeast.

It was set up as a full time unit in 1964. One of their most distressing jobs, however, is recovering bodies from the River. On average over 50 people lose their lives in the Thames each year and about 80% of these are by suicide (usually by jumping off one of the many bridges that cross the Thames).

At this time southern England was located approximately 40°N of the equator, 10°S of its present latitude, comparable to Spain today.

The tragic message reads 'No Signs of Life' in large red letters, read by passers-by along the on the Avenue of the Americas on Manhattan. As the news travels across the building, the camera blurs other TV pictures of live broadcasts with a sense of urgency, speed and desperation in the fruitless search for life.

There is a family-friendly visitor centre at Holloway, run by the Prison Advice & Care Trust (pact), an independent charity.

  • Security employed by contractor OCS searches a passenger at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5. Teams of 5-8 perform a rotational order of tasks, changing every 20 minutes: A loader (asking travellers to take off clothing, shoes etc); archway detectors; X-ray operator; liquid tester and bag searcher. The X-ray operator can earn a £50 bonus for a suspect item randomly inserted by undercover officials and known as an Airlock Find. Also, a Tip is a random image flashed on the screen that shows a suspect item they have to spot. A typical day of searched passengers is 25,000 passengers in T5.
